Discouraged by appointments with multiple doctors whose only remedy for pain and decreased mobility were medications, I had the good fortune some years ago to learn of the work of Dr. Deorio. For twenty plus years, I looked for a doctor to help me with a defect I had in my ankle. Nights of suffering, pain pills and I was always told I was inoperable. 6 Star Review ?????? As an avid distance runner/cyclist, I had been extremely apprehensive about corrective foot surgery. My primary physician highly recommended Duke Orthopaedics. I came to Dr. DeOrio with a serious ankle fracture and torn ligament, which ended up requiring a steel plate and screws. I'm not a surgeon but he did an exceptional job. Even I can see on the X-Rays that the alignment of the bone he repaired is just perfect, and I am back to a full range of motion with minimal discomfort as the healing process continues. In lesser hands, I could have been left limping for the rest of my life. I'm very grateful for Dr. DeOrio's skill and dedication to his work and patients!
Dr DeOrio’s experience in total ankle replacements convinced me to drive seven hours from our home. I made sure to follow his instructions to the letter and had great results.
At the age of 63, I was forced to give up all of the activities that I enjoyed because of constant pain in both of my ankles. I had an ankle replacement in 2002 that failed in 2021, leaving me totally unable to walk. Because I had a degraded talus bone, the only treatment available was ankle fusion, which would have left me unable to walk normally. I was referred to Dr. DeOrio by my original surgeon, who had since retired and felt Dr. DeOrio was the national leader in this treatment area. Dr. DeOrio comes with my highest recommendation. His skill, staff, care, assess ability, listening skills were all I could hope for with the delicate procedure of my ankle replacement. His follow up rated the same for the successful outcome I have had. Duke has a great asset.
Dr. Deorio is a miracle worker - my ankle is almost perfect from the surgery 6 years ago. He is kind, friendly, and a recognized expert in ankle replacements - top 10 in his field. Just had 6 yr checkup - still a great ankle - no adverse conditions and I have resumed all normal activities. So glad I didn't ask for amputation when my ankle felt like it was falling off - before this Dr. worked his craft on it!
