Editorial fromCarnivores go for the slow-cooked brisket, links and baby-backs at this top Portland barbecue joint. The heat level is calibrated as you like it, but the flavors remain smoky and pungent no matter what your level of fire tolerance. The…

Change of owners – The owners changed and now the place is horrid. I do not recommend at all. The meat was tough and dry but for the same big price. The potato salad and corn bread arnt homemade anymore. Waste of money I didnt even eat all of what I got it was so gross.
Business response:
we have the same cook for the last 19 yrs, potato salad and cornbread is homemade everyday...what are you saying? you think we buy them from Fred Meyer? meat is cooked everyday and we had no one complained about our meat while being our customer for a very long time.....it must be our competitor trying to make us look bad. Campbell's bbq mgmt.
NOT the best BBQ I have had – Thought we would try this place because of the "Best BBQ in Portland" review that it was receiving. Walked in and place was quaint. The hostess/worker seated us and did not even smile the entire time we were there. They seemed to be undergoing renovations, or there is construction going on right outside the diningroom window. Throughout our meal tiny ants were crawling on the table. Most likely because of the construction. The sauce is a tomato based, tangy sauce that did not have any flavor at ... read more
Business response:
we have 4 sauce, smokey brown sugar, mild, medium, hot., because some prefer one over the other. And for every negative comment written at this site, there are thousands of happy customers that didn't write reviews. Please go to our NEW website CAMPBELLSBBQ.COM regarding our products, service, and some pictures from Catering events, and we do hundreds of catering events every year with no negative comments.... And as far as our prices, we honestly feel that we are very reasonable in this inflationary economy with high cost o... read more
Horrible Customer Service – I've been going to Campbells for the last 3 years and up until about a year and a half ago have had amazing service and food. Lately the service has been below par. Recently I tried placing a to-go order and the the lady on the phone actually accused me of ordering before and not picking up the food. Now I own a restaurant and now exactly what it's like for that to happen, however to accuse someone over the phone is completely irresponsible. I would have let it slide, but she insisted it was me, e... read more
Great Beer, Great Food. Nice Atmosphere. – It was nice to have a wide selection of BEER! ..my favorite is IPA by Terminal Gravity...Green was very good, and I had a two meat combo, Pork ribs and Beef Brisket...rib was tender and flavorful like best I had...and Brisket was almost all solid meat, nice thick slices that had spicy sauce all over...potato salad was great and very tasty..Service and speed, quality and atmosphere is probably the best barbecue joint in Portland. .From the outside it doesn't look that fancy, but the ... read more
We'll be back – We had a great meal at Campbell's. The meat (we had the pork ribs) from their wood-fired pit was tasty, the sauce just the way we like it. Greens tender and not too spicy--there's peppery vinegar on the table if you want more fire. Potato salad in the great tradition of mooshy, slightly pickly taste of the great barbecue joints. Marionberry cobbler with ice cream--yum! Everything was prepared with care and skill, the service was great--friendly but not in your face. Lots of food, reasonable prices. A new favo... read more
Great buffalo ribs with smokey brown sause and a side dip of medium sauce – I have been looking for a good BBQ place on the east side for some time and decided to try Campbell's again. I have been here in the past and was disappointed the last time (several years ago). I was pleasantly surprised. The place was re-modeled, clean, and very friendly staff. I ordered the buffalo combo. I was unsure of what sauce to offer and staff recommended smokey brown with a side of medium to dip in. It was great. For dessert I had sweet pot... read more
Not the Campbells it Used To Be – Went last night and took my family from out of town. It has always been my Dad's favorite place to go when he's visiting. The service was fine, the portions on the sides were generous. But the brisket was horrible. It had alot of fat running thru it and tasted like it wasn't slow cooked. It was tough to chew and actually looked like it was med-rare and tasted old. The sauce I thought was horrible also. No smokey taste, it was more like spicey ketchup and vinegar. I found it to not be edible ... read more
Sweet potato pie that is out of this world! great food & atmosphere – I love pies, from strudel to chicken potpies. I'm a pie man. As I got older, life was just a merry- go- round. But the night that I had campbell's sweet potato pie, I felt young again, like I just made out with a best looking girl in my high school......Really! .It was a pleasure to find something that can impress me at my age. Food was great, server girl was a-t-t-ractive, service was good....But that pie was Un-forgettable!. Thankyou Campbell's for givin... read more
Pathetic – I'll will try a place three times before passing judgement. I ate my last meal from Campbell's last Sunday. This was takeout cost $25.00. I ordered a 2 meat (beef ribs and pork ribs) platter with two sides, cornbread and Peach Cobbler. First the beef ribs....very little meat, drenched in sauce. There were no actual bones to be found in the "spareribs". They had given me 5 ends sliced to resemble actual ribs. The real fatty piece with lots of gristle. Not one BONE. I've gotten better potato salad from minimarts. No li... read more
