Editorial fromCarnivores go for the slow-cooked brisket, links and baby-backs at this top Portland barbecue joint. The heat level is calibrated as you like it, but the flavors remain smoky and pungent no matter what your level of fire tolerance. The…

No Good BBQ – This was just lousy. Ordered the family 3 deal. Mac n cheese was mac with unmelted bits oif yellow and white cheese. Chicken was almost like jerky. So very dry. As was the sliced meats. And the BBQ sauce, dumped it! The cornbread was adequate. And my dog had a feast. I strongly recommend asking for a taste sample before purchasing 42 bucks worth of doggie bag. Red beans n rice was foul. This crap is so far removed from good southern anything! White folks were there and an asian fellow cooking. And the ditzy wai... read more
I Miss the Good Old Days – I'm a white dude, ok? Understand that the original Campbells was an offshoot of Flint's BBQ in Oakland, which is legendary and a place I have frequented many times. When I rolled back into PDX and saw the upscale look to Campbells, I knew a buyout had taken place. It looked really, really white which I was not used to since Campbell's fed me for so long and I was used to a certain feel. I ordered the links....my fave and a Flint's/Campbells tradition....almost patentable. I got what amounts to a ho... read more
Good Food and Low Price – I Ordered the Beef Ribs and Pork Ribs for a combo..the Ribs were HUGE enough for two people to share...sorry but it's all mine! Never had such a large Ribs with thick meat.! Mac & Cheese, Baked Beans, Coleslaw...Freshly Homemade, not fatty or mushy. Cornbread was fresh too. Lower than expected price tag, it was a good deal for a home cookin food, and the girls were very nice...defnitely recommend this place for a good value and service in this tough economic times.
Great Barbecue – Aroma of Smoke tells the story as you walk into the place, nicely decorated with Steer Horns and other Antlers, Had some doubt but when I received the Biggie Family Meal, everyone was surprised by the large portion and all the meats were flavorful and not dry. Especially the Pork Ribs and Beef Briskets were excellent. Macaroni & Cheese were layered in two cheese, the best I've had in Portland, although my favorite would be with the Jalepeno peppers. But all in all, all the food was excellent for the party of... read more
Not The Same Any More – I've been to Campbell's dozens of times over the years, and it's always been one of my favorites. It's clear there's been ownership changes over the last few years, even if they did retain the old pitmaster. The decor is certainly improved, but the place is missing much of its soul. The barbecue still has all the great flavor I expect from Campbell's, but the portions aren't as generous, and the sides seemed like an afterthought. While I had a decent experience, and might go back someday, it's not at ... read more
service not great – This is the first time we've ever ordered anything from Campbells BBQ. Tonight we ordered take-out. The meat was outstanding, but we ordered the beans and rice and they were extremely bland. There was no flavor on them at all....the macrononi and cheese was very bland as well and cold, as were all of our sides. We only live around the corner and were there in there within in the 15 minute time frame that we were told to arrive...but for some reason, all of our sides were cold (and bland) except for the me... read more
Sampler plate was excellent – Two of us ordered Sampler and it was more food than we thought. Very good flavor of smoke, Chicken,Porkrib, Briskets were all delicious. Even the Links were very tasty with touch of spice. We were sampling for our large party, and we've made up our mind. First of all, I've checked the reviews of several BBQ places in town, they all had somewhat sketchy reviews, and I realized that people are just people, and usually the unhappy ones are louder than happy and content customers...which is why ever... read more
BROTHAS KNOWS THE BBQ NUMBA.... – SAUCE WAS DIFFERENT THAN CHARLOTTE NORTH CAROLINA, BUT THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENTE... MY FRIEND RECOMMENDED CAMPBELLS TO BE THE BEST IN PORTLAND, AND HE WAS RIGHT TO MY SATISFACTION. WAITRESS WAS FAST AND SWEET! BEEF BRISKET WAS VERY TENDER LIKE IT WAS COOKED ALL NIGHT! COLESLAW WAS TANGY GOOD, FRESH CORNBREAD WAS LIKE THE SOUTH! I ORDERED SLAB OF PORK RIBS TO GO FOR MY FRIENDS AND THEY GAVE ME TWO BOTTLES OF SMOKEY BROWN SWEET SAUCE ON THE HOUSE! NOW THAT'S A SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY! THIS TOWN LOO... read more
ANTS! EVERYWHERE! OMG. PLEASE READ. – Now this is one sad story and one heck of a way to ruin a birthday dinner. So, it's a family member's birthday, their choice of restaurant. He has ordered out before so he assumes, hey good food, nice folks, lets invite the family for some good ol' BBQ. My son and I wanted to make his uncle some red velvet cupcakes for his birthday. Freshly made and cupcakes in hand, we set to meet everyone else at the restaurant. We get there, I set my cupcakes down to a table right next to us and we ea... read more
