Overall Poor Experience – Visited BCC last night for the 4th time in 5 years, and I will not be returning. I used to assume that the place could stay in business despite the pretty rude and authoritarian service because the food was decent, but last night the bland dishes and huge bill made me come away feeling totally abused. Went with a group, and was told by the waitress "If you've been here before, you know we serve family style." The fact is, I've been there several times, and family style was never compulsory, so our e... read more
Sub-Par – Definitely not the best Indian food in town, despite being the most expensive. You can get much tastier and quality Indian food at several other close-in locations for half the price. It is ludicrous that you have to wait for everyone in your group to be present before being seated, especially after having made reservations. Everything was rushed, including the bill.
Come Here if You Want a Nice Sit-Down Indian Dinner – This is the Indian restuarant I go to when I want a nice atmosphere and yummy Indian dinner. I admit, however, that some of my favorite Indian restuarants in Portland can be found downtown and are only open as lunch spots. Make reservations at this place or you are out of luck. Prices are a bit pricey, but I'm not complaining. I could live on their potato naan alone. This isn't my favorite Indian restuarant in Portland, but it comes close.
Friendly Service with cuisine far better than most local Indian restaurants – I'll start by pointing out the obvious - the Indian food in Portland is kinda lacking. In fact, my favorite in town comes from a cart in a parking lot near the library, however, sometimes you want to sit down in a restaurant rather than get to-go, and that is when you go to Bombay Cricket Club. You must make reservations and due to the tiny size of the restaurant, paired with the line out the door, they have no choice but to be Nazi-like in nature ... read more
great customer service, best indian place in portland – The only thing I can think about the previous reviews is that people wanted to keep the BCC all to themselves and so they wrote bad reviews to keep others away. We made 7:30 reservations on a Thursday and arrived about fifteen minutes early. A very nice man, who turned out to be the owner, invited us to sit at the bar while our table was readied. The bartender was really nice. She fixed a delicous Mango-rita, and my husband was pleased to see they had the Indian lager h... read more
Don't waste your time and money! I would definitely not recommend this place! We went with a party and we were told that we had to make reservations for 5 PM and that everyone had to be there to get seated. This seems a bit early to be having someone's birthday dinner. Once we were seated we were promptly lectured about what and how we should order and told to be understanding because the kitchen was small, no more than 5 different dishes for a table of 8 people were recommended. Not one of the servers smiled or made us feel... read more
the snobbiest staff in town! – I have never been to such a snobby staffed place in my life! I felt like Carrie on Six in The City, getting snubbed when I walked in the door. Who ever heard of not seating a party until all members are there?? A friend in our party was caught in traffic, but we were not allowed to take a table until she arrived-started the evening on a bad note right there. None of the servers had a smile on their faces, and were very abrupt when talking with us. I did not like the hovering while we ate, eithe... read more
Carefully prepared Indian specialties keep this comfortable SE Hawthorne eatery on the perennially popular list. – In Short Upscale boomers, east-side bohemians and starry eyed lovers fill the cheerful peach dining room, cozy upstairs loft and tiny bar. More for the sake of culture than sport, quiet cricket matches are broadcast on multiple televisions. The menu is large and varied, with a strong vegetarian offering and a smattering of Middle Eastern dishes. Entrees include tender lamb shahi, accented with sweet raisins and ... read more
Portland is just not the town for a decent Indian food – My wife and I just returned from dining at the much hyped Bombay Cricket Club. Let me tell you we came out quite disappointed. It completely surprises me why this restaurant is so talked about? I have no clue why people were waiting in line to get inside and get disappointed. In our ongoing quest and continuous disappointment of finding fine Indian Dining place in Portland, tonight we gave BCC a try. For appetizer we started with samosa and it was HORRIBLE. To be hones... read more
