Best Indian food around – This is our all-time favorite restaurant, should have written a review years ago. We check out Indian food everywhere we go (including outside Portland) and Bombay Cricket Club continues to be on top. They have reasonable prices, good variety and generous portions of delicious food. This includes a large selection of vegetarian dishes and fish, (the eggplant, chickpeas and okra continue to be favorites). Their breads are amazing - large portions and a variety of them. Try the Zathar Naan. Also some ... read more
WORST INDIAN FOOD EVER – Save your money and your time. This restaurant is a sad and pricey excuse for Indian food. My girlfriend and I live about 2 blocks away and we always wanted to try it. We went in with the lowest expectations possible and those were not even fulfilled. The naan bread was the best thing about this place. The food is over-spiced to cover up the lack of flavor. Don't trust any of the postive reviews on this list. Whoever wrote them either works there or is related to the owners. If there was a -star I wo... read more
Might have USED to have been good, but not anymore! – Mango Lassi was too thick, and WAY too bitter. The yogurt influence was too prevalent. The Chicken Tikka Masala was VERY scarce, and the chicken was burned on the edges. There was enough sauce to cover half a plate of rice, and that's it. I've eaten Indian food in MANY different restaurants, in 5 different states, and this is one of the worst.
Lame rushed service, food gone downhill – Used to be good food, must have a new cook, because food was just OK. And did I mention the piece of metal my dining partner found in his food? Did I mention they still charged us for the food, but gave us the piece of metal gratis. Very expensive and don't go if you want to take your time and enjoy yourself. The servers stand over you and shove your drinks and food at you and expect you to eat as fast as possible to turn and burn the table. Makes the entire experience uncomfortable ... read more
Hands down - the best Indian food in Portland – I love the Bombay. I've been going there for 8 years and it's such a Portland institution - I can't go more than a few weeks without going over there :) I have heard some complaints about service but I have never had any other than it's obviously very hectic. You absolutely have to have a reservation for this place, I have seen many disappointed faces being turned away over the years. Try the Marsala Margarita (might only want to have one if you are driving, though!) and the fo... read more
Seriously lacking flavor – Never in my life (and I grew up eating in an Indian temple) have I had such bland Indian food. One of the wonderful aspects of Indian cuisine are its array of spices and unique flavors. The food not only lacked in exotic flavors, but also a key seasoning- salt!! I had a starter of vegetable samosa and shared entrees with my husband. The tamarind chutney was only tart with nothing to counterbalance and both dishes may as well have been the same thing with slightly different textures because they tas... read more
prawn coconut curry.. mmmm.. – i had the prawn coconut curry and my boyfriend had the chicken tiki masala. it was great. the naan was awesome and you should really try and mango~rita! its a little pricey, but we didn't wait at all. i don't see how you could stay in there for 10 or even 7 minutes without being helped becuase everyone is really helpful and friendly, and its not very big.. the food is great and people are friendly. $$
Bad service, mediocre food – We came to the restaurant per our reservations, but it took 7-10 minutes to get someone to pay attention to us. To our dismay, we were made to wait even longer without being seated because not everyone in our party were present! I have never heard of anything like that. We should have just left at that moment. Food was ok, just ok. I have been to many parts of India, have many Indian friends, and this food was anything, but authentic. I seriously don't know how this restaurant got 4.5 stars. Amazing flavors – The flavors at the Bombay Cricket Club are amazing, unique, and wonderful. The samosas are unexpected ly spiced with cinammon, a flavor that goes perfectly with the tarmind dipping sauce, and are made in a cone shape with a thin, crispy crust. The channa masala (chickpeas cooked with onion and tomatoes) are a revelation: the buttery, nutty flavor of the chickpeas is delicious beyond words: I would have happily made a meal of them alone. Okra, a vegetable that is so easy to ruin, is cooked to perfection: jus... read more
