OK people here is the skinny from a Chicago Restauranteur... – The customer is "NOT" always right!!! The average "ranch" guzzling Oregonian will hate this review, but will ring truer than you can imagine. I follow the same philosophy in my joint and have a line out the door. Most restaurants, 95% of them go under within 5 years. I'm am retired at 40. Good owners cultivate their crowd. I want my place full of winners. Believe me if you don't fit the mold you will be made to feel uncomfortable because you are the type that wil... read more

Make reservations, come hungry! – Took a friend here while she was visiting Portland and we both promptly proclaimed it the best Indian food she's ever eaten in her life, ever. And we've eaten at plenty of Indian restaurants and homes. We arrived late in the evening, without a reservation, but the staff was very friendly and allowed us to loiter at the one empty bar seat until a table came free (under 10 minutes.) We then enjoyed one of the tastiest and most delightful meals ever. The evening was improved by the good humor o... read more

Stay away. Terrible and pressured service. A very unpleasant experience for all four of us. – Over all, we were not pleased and won't be coming back. The food was good. Nothing unexpected, but fine and satisfying. The service was another matter. Some of the various servers who attended to us were good, but overall we felt very rushed and uncomfortable for most of our meal. This was a unanimous consensus. First off, three of us arrived early and were seated before our fourth arrived which was nice. We tried to order some naan... read more

Customer service stinks, food is ok......just ok. – I agree and believe everyone's accounts of bad service/accomodations. I've been here twice and I'm ready to give other, "real" indian restaurants my business. Too many non-friendly resuervations rules. Heeard from many people the owner is rude. When business drops at this restaurant maybe they'll get a hint. I was there last summer and sat upstairs with a group of 6. It had to be over 100degrees. I was told that it was their ovens and the airconditioning couldn't keep up. D... read more

Avoid at all cost – I was shocked,! I had reservation, We were there few minutes early. The manager came and looked at us, he didn't smile , didn't say anything. We waited at the entrace for 15 minutes every one was looking, but no one felt like saying anything! They had three free tables..I pay well for good service, not only for good food. This is not the place I will go again..the manager (guy with a gold chain) is the worse of all....

Best indian in Portland – I love this place. I have been eating indian food since I was about 5 and I missed it so much when i moved here to portland that I had to find a decent place. It used to be that when we wanted some nice Indian we would go to plainfields but it's way too pricey there for an every couple of weeks dinner. Bombay however is a great dicovery. As long as you ask for it hot then it comes just like a normal curry would from back home, the kind of curry that goes well with couple of pints. Vege pakora isn't ... read more

Poor customer service, bad food, avoid summers. – Long wait time for orders. Food doesn't even taste Indian-its more so middle eastern. Summers get unbearably hot, AC doesnt cool the area. Had to go out twice in the middle of eating to get cooler, fresher air. Too much attitude to make you feel comfortable- will not seat anyone unless all show up. Refuse to reserve more than 4 during winter.

Great food, arrogant service... – The food is always good here, but the service is lacking. There is a sort of arrogance about the staff and the owner, such that they act like they do you a favor by letting you dine at their establishment. And don't even dream of ordering food to-go; you will get the same attitude 10 fold!

Great food, great atmosphere, best Indian in Portland – I have to agree with the most recent reviews with the following recommendations: call ahead with reservations, show up on time, and enjoy a mango-rita. I've never been treated rudely coming to Bombay - even showing up on the night after a holiday without reservations. Sure we had to wait for a table - it's a popular place. The drinks are great, the food is heavenly, and the service is usually crisp and professional, but in several years I've never been treated rudely by... read more
