Great food, great atmosphere, best Indian in Portland – I have to agree with the most recent reviews with the following recommendations: call ahead with reservations, show up on time, and enjoy a mango-rita. I've never been treated rudely coming to Bombay - even showing up on the night after a holiday without reservations. Sure we had to wait for a table - it's a popular place. The drinks are great, the food is heavenly, and the service is usually crisp and professional, but in several years I've never been treated rudely by... read more

Best Indian Food In Town – You are missing out on something really good, if you have not been to this restaurant. In this warm, cozy space, fragrant and comforting aromas of India waft through the dining rooms from the kitchen. The service has always been impeccable, the mango-ritas fantastic but a tad strong, and the food simply divine. From the hot naan and hummus brought out by the owner himself while we waited for our table, to the garlic and cheese naans with mattar paneer and chicken makhani for dinner - the food lives... read more

Great indian food. – This place is the best. The resturant is in a older building but it is set up really cute, the owner is usually there and greets you and asks you how your food is. The food is great. There are lot's of choices on the menu and you can choose how spicy your food is prepared. The drinks are good as well. It can get very busy especially on a weekend you need to make reservations. It is well worth it though. If you love indian food you have to try it.

Excellent food and fine service – What is wrong with all you people? Seriously. All I can gather is that BCC must attract a very special class of people indeed--people who are so full of themselves that they think they should be treated extra nice-like because they are dressed well, or something. Seriously, it's a busy place, it has some idosyncracies, and yes, it IS run by a "Soup N**i" type guy, but anyone complaining about the food should have his or her head examined. Everything I have ever tasted there in 6 years of vis... read more

Make a reservation and quit whining! – Since its obvious that most of you are whining about not getting a table since you didn't bother to make a reservation I do not feel the least bit sorry for you. Bombay is the bomb, and my family has been going to it for years. Yes it is a special occassion place, so have the decency to make a reservation and don't be so pretentious to think you can walk into any restaurant in Portland without one! Yes, this place is small, but that's part of its appeal. Request a bottom floor table, up... read more

Crappiest indian food ever – Hi I went to BBC just 2 times once in 2002 and second in 2006, I thought after 4 years the cook might have changed or the recipe, but none has changed, I am from INDIA and I know how Indian food tastes and BBC is nowhere close to it. I ordered tandoori chicken which is a dry roasted dish and spicy, but they came out with chicken in gravy what the heck was that????? Also the other dishes were just boiled chicken with no spice, the place is tooo small and uncomfortable to sit, also the management g... read more

Don't Bother – Don't bother, unless you want to be rushed. My husband and I went on a Sunday night, ordered cocktails, after a few sips, ordered our dinners. Our appetizers came out and about a third of the way through, the server came with our entrees and as I'm about ready to take a bite of my app, she asked, "Would you like me to box that up for you?" My husband and I were a bit surprised as we were still eating, and we looked at each other and the server said, "Well, it's just that there's not enough space." I thought, "... read more

why the bad rap? – Hmmm, my boyfriend and I have been here several times, and yeah, it's definitely our "special occassion" splurge place, not the "it's Friday night and we're beat so let's run in and grab a quick, cheap bite to eat" place. But we've always made reservations, shown up on time, and what may be a tip if your schedule allows, dined later in the evening (8 pm). We've never been rushed by waitstaff, had expensive items pushed on us, or treated rudely. In fact, we've always lingered over the check and never receiv... read more

Never Again. – I have gone to BBC for over 10 years, and while the food is decent, the attitude has gotten steadily worse. My last visit, last Tuesday, marks the end of the "relationship". We arrived at 8:15, a party of two with no reservation. We were told we could sit at the bar. We said that we would be happy to wait outside for a table, and we were told we could not do that because "it's close to our closing time". So we sat at the bar, and the bartender asked if we were ready to order, and we said we weren't sure. She s... read more
