BCC a victim of its own success. – Great food....below average service. There is an obvious goal on the part of the servers to move you in and out of the restaurant as quickly as possible so they can turn the tables and make more tips. My server actually refused to take an appetizer order and then return for our main course choices, saying "We're not allowed to do that." They brought the main course dishes out within a couple of minutes of the appetizer and then did everything they could to push us out the door. Not at all a... read more

Good food but service lacks – I enjoyed the food very much but I felt as though after eating we were expected to GET OUT so others could sit down where we were. I was even reminded of this by being asked to note that there were others waiting while relaxing after our meal, I mean barely after we had finished. I should have known, as even before we had placed our order we were informed that we may be asked to move along the bar to accomodate another couple if needed. Overall this has caused me to rethink my opinion of the pla... read more

Prices are Unwarranted for the Quality – After hearing so many good things about this location, we finally tried it and were utterly disappointed with both the food and prices. The food is average, but the owners are apparently very proud of it since the costs are exorbitant. We will not be back.

Best Indian on Hawthorne – Take a walk down to bombay Crickett Club, you'll be glad you did. the food is just out of sight. The price is right, it's was worth the walk. Just ask the server to what they like and you'll be impressed. Can't think of another place i't rather eat on Hawthorne. It's worth the walk

Always the Best! – I have dined at most of the Indian restaurants here in Portland. The Bombay is authentic in every way. The Tandoori, vindaloo, and saag- etc... are all very tasty. The headdy aroma that permeates the dining area is heavenly in itself. The Mango-Rita's that are served here are refreshing and have attained cult status. The restaurant itself is unpretentious. It does'nt need to be like everyone else. The food brings in the customers. I will continue dining there with my wife for another eight years or so. Man... read more

STILL MY FAVORITE – I've been eating at the Bombay for 8 years, and though it's often very hard to get in, and though it's often very crowded. The food has always been beyond excellent, and I don't recall ever having a rude waiter. Maybe I went on all the good energy nights. Karim has always been a doll....so still my favorite!

authenticity lacking – With no Indian patrons, servers, or kitchen staff, I shouldn't have been surprised to realize how far this food and experience strays from traditional Indian fare. I guarantee that naan would never arrive 5 minutes after the main dishes have been served in any "authentic" restaurant. After repeated explanations of how hot "hot" is (if low is 1, medium is a 20), my guest and I were surprised to find our "medium" dishes weren't spicy at all, while that delayed naan was off the charts. They should warn ab... read more

Everything for someone (me, for example) – Best Indian in Portland for my money. Casual, noisy, crowded, friendly atmosphere. Bad choice if you're stuffy, in a hurry, or think you're special. For serious heat in your food, go to the kitchen and tell the cook; the waitstaff might or might not relay your request for maximum spice, especially if you look nordic. Haven't worked my way through the entire menu yet, but so far, all dishes good to excellent. Best saag ever. Some nice white wines, and the Ritas are tasty and boozy, i... read more
