I've used Uhaul over the last 8 years for many moves. This aftermath of this past move though, will make me think twice about using Uhaul again. We are in IL - we have iPass. We forgot our personal transponders when we left the house and we didn't have change - so we just went through the tolls and noted which tolls they were so we could pay them online later. I reserve a 26-foot truck every week for our HS marching band during the fall football and competition season. All reservations are made at the beginning of the season, and I check to see that all the email confirmations come in and that they are correct. Today my husband goes to pick up the truck, and the location tells him that there is no 26 foot truck available. I would be careful with one way rentals with U Haul. I booked a truck for 9 am on a Sunday morning, pick up in Ottawa and drop off in Montreal. I booked it THREE MONTHS in advance. A couple days before the move, I learned that the truck would only be available at the Ottawa location as of 5 pm. It completely threw off my moving plans. I had booked an elevator and movers for the morning, and had to return to work on the Monday morning. U Haul could not do anything about it. Reserved a U-Box for my cross country move at the closest location to me. Never received follow-up (They said we would be contacted with confirmation), but when we called we were assured that everything was good to go. Reserved a truck online days in advance. When I arrived to pick up the truck, the location informed me the truck had not arrived. One would think this would warrant a phone call or email but no. U-Haul is the most unreliable, unprofessional, and unorganized company that I have ever came across. I had ordered two U-boxes and they only dropped off one. I spent an entire day talking to 15 different representatives on the phone trying to figure out where my other box was. Most of the representatives were rude and unhelpful. My husband and I had a horrific experience at the UHaul location on 23rd Street in Manhattan. We reserved a vehicle for 9 a.m., however we were delayed in our arrival and attempted to call the location to alert them to the issue. No one answered the phone, and when we finally did arrive, we were told that our reservation had been canceled since we did not show up on time. I reserved a 6X12 enclosed trailer by phone to use in Manitoba, Canada. They day before pickup I contacted uhaul to arrange exact location pickup as they had not contacted me yet. They said I would need to pick up the trailer at a location 1 hour away from my requested location. On the next phone call they said I could pick up at my requested location. I had read all the reviews about Uhaul and figured that it can't ALL be bad. Oh well, I should have listened to these reviews as others have experienced the exact same problem as this! Do not use their online system. I think it is just there so that people can push buttons and feel like they've accomplished something.
