I would highly recommend that no one ever use Avis. They canceled our reservations that were in place months in advance on two separate occasions, leaving us to scramble the day before large group trips. The first time, they gave us our pick up time and when we arrived, the office was closed. There was another lady waiting as well with her two young children. Customer service was absolutely horrible. They were not willing to help at all. They wouldn't help us find another vehicle and would not promise us a price match if we ... read more

Avis car rental online services kept changes the price to a higher price every single time i made a change to my reservation. This is clearly a scam. I have screen shots of the prices changing after the first two modifications i made. This is incredibly unacceptable. They also hooked me in with a misleading promotion for 30% off the rental. Renting from the LAX Avis Center was horrible! The agent (*****) was the only agent without a jacket (poorly dressed ... should have been a hint) and had no idea how to process my AARP discount or my Barclay Bank credit card. Horrible experience driving with AVIS. We rented a car to Florida after our flight got canceled and we were in the wedding party in Florida from New Jersey. When we were in South Carolina, we turned the car off and got gas. When we tried to restart the car and continue on our way, the car wouldn't start and we had to call emergency roadside assistance. Terrible, terrible experience. I made a reservation that involved returning a car on July 5th. When I went to pick up the car, the location informed me that they were closed on July 5th so I would have to either keep the car for an extra day (something I can't do given my travel schedule) or return the car somewhere else. The lady just assigned me the nearest location, but said I could go online and choose a location that works for my itinerary. I rented a vehicle from Avis or at least tried too. I went online and completed the reservation. However, when it was time to pick up my rental they were out of cars. So, I attempted to find out what was going on and in the meantime Avis had placed a hold on my money for the rental for $533. Avis scammed me and ruined my trip. I was told the refueling service fee would be taken off my invoice upon return of the vehicle with a full tank. I told the person checking in the car that I just topped off the tank when I handed the key over. When I checked my emailed receipt the charge was there. I immediately called customer support which took over 23 minutes to speak to a person only to be put on hold again. Then I was told I had to provide a receipt that I put fuel in the car. No can do. Avis levied a $450 cleaning fee claiming "excessive dirt-sand" on a rental I recently had. The car I rented was in poor condition upon my receiving it, and it was returned in what I believed was good condition. Unfortunately, I cannot take photos of a car with enough resolution to dispute "excessive dirt-sand" - I believe this is a tactic being used to entice people to rent cars with artificially low initial prices, and jam them with fees on the backend. I rented a car from Avis through *******.com on 6/23/21. I was confirmed under #*********** for 7 days. The confirmation total was 400.92. When I arrived to pick up the car Jason the attendant told me they did not have the car I ordered and that they upgrade me for an additional 74.90. I told he I was confirmed for 400.92 not 475.82. "Don't my confirmation mean anything". He said it does but he has to charge me the upgrade fee.
