Cheese grits, black beans and fried fish are staples in any soul food restaurant, and this kitchen prepares them in the most traditional way. The owners opened the Birmingham restaurant after success with a couple of other locations in Florida, and just like in the Sunshine State, you'll find simple dishes made with simple ingredients. Open for lunch and brunch only, come and order some chicken and waffles and wash it down with a sweet tea, it doesn't get any more quintessentially Southern than this.

I ordered the shrimp tacos and it's very good but they didn't give me the rice instead of the grits. I may come back for one day.
My son and I are severe celiacs. We took a chance and I am so glad we did!!!!! Best food I have eaten in a long time. I cannot wait to go back! The best part was that neither of us had any cross-contamination. Great food, great people, grateful celiacs!!!!!!!!!!! Incredible! Love their entire menu is GF! Means so much to people that need/have to eat GF!
This is one of the greatest places i've eaten in a long time. So many great things to say about this place. For starters the staff is amazing. That alone made me just want to hug them like family. Then the food, WOW, we were stuffed but couldn't help but to keep eating. It is obvious they took time and perfected every item on their menu. My lunch party had chicken and waffles, fish plate, shrimp plate and fried green tomatoes. And did i mention most of their menu is gluten free. The best gf waffle ever!! Airy, light, delicious but also gluten free! I was in waffle heaven. Many time, eating gf means giving up those airy waffles, but not at Yo Mama's!!! Gf chicken was excellent as well. Crispy but moist in side each chicken wing. You must go to Yo Mama's!!
YUM! Not only is the food outstanding, most of the food has a GLUTEN FREE option. Fried chicken and waffles gluten free!?? Yes!! Cheese grits!? Yes! The beautiful lady in front was so friendly, as if we have always known eachother! I've never been in a place with nicer people. My belly is happy annnnd my heart is full!
