La Velvet Margarita Cantina serves up family recipes handed down through the generations in an ambiance that is Hollywood swank with Mexican flare. Aside from the extensive menu, a long list of colorfully titled drinks include the Pink Puta and the Velvet Gringo, and of course, the restaurant's namesake La Velvet Margarita. It is a Hollywood hot-spot, so dress accordingly, who knows which star you might see enjoying their Pink Puta.

Like Tia's Backyard – This place reminded me of Tia's backyard in the Gh*tto and that's a compliment. Hip Mexican vibe makes being hispanic cool in Hollywood. With plenty of bars to hop to and clubs to dance at, the VM is a great place to start or end the evening. Food was good, drinks good, but the atmosphere is a MUST. Pop songs in Spanish play in the background while an occassional Happy Birthday song in the mix. The Patio is great with its own bar and pleanty of leg room. Skip if you don't have $$$ for drinks. Expensive ... read more
Best Atmosphere in Mexican Food – Another must-visit spot in Hollywood. I made a reservation the day of with no problems. I had to push it back 30minutes, again no problem. This place is DECKED-OUT. The food is truly good, and the staff is super friendly. Sure the food is inexpensive, but they more than make up for it on the drinks. The margaritas are tasty, but go for a middle of the road one, the $30 one just is not worth it. I cannot express enough how absolutely COOL this place is. DO make a reservation!
Great Mojitos, Inexpensive Food – Very cute atmosphere. Goth meets mexican meets luxe. Call a few days in advance for reservations...we couldn't get seated until almost 11pm for dinner. The waitstaff is attentive and fun. The $10 mojitos are worth every penny. Dinner is a flat price--$15!!!--and portions are large, so don't be afraid to share. The food isn't the best you've ever had, but after a few mojits...you don't notice any difference! Get the shrimp bisque, its phenomenal! Within walking distance of a lot of other grea... read more
Unique, Socialable, Fun..... – After hearing about this place so much I decided to give it a try; with that said I was pleasantly surprised because it was everything I had expected and more. The staff was very attentive, amicable, and professional. The food was delicous and arrived promptly. As far as the ambiance goes...I definitely got in the mood to socialize. I will definitely go back with either friends or a date.
Outstanding! – This place is amazing. I keep coming back to share with my friends and everybody I bring is just floored. The food is terrific. Classic with new twists. The portions are huge too. This is the type of place where you can just come in for a drink and a good meal and just end up staying all night because the people are so cool and the vibe good. The owner came up to the table and checked out everything and I thought that was cool because it shows that people really care about me as a customer and not just taking ... read more
Best Cinco De Mayo location in L.A. – Cinco De Mayo 2006. PROS Place was packed, but staff were still extremely visable, friendly and helpful. Free margaritas, hot sauza tequila girls, and comp food trays all night- food was good- I've eaten dinner there before which was really good, who knew bar snacks could be yummy too. Crowd was deep in celebs. Owners were around all night, saying hi and helping out, and they had Mariachis as well as a DJ...I am not sure if it was the tequila, but the DJ seemed to be playing all my favori... read more
The Best Time... – My girls and I celebrated our group birthday this last weekend here and had the best time! The staff treated us like gold. The food, the music, the atmosphere... couldn't have been better! Thank you Velvet Margarita for a perfect birthday!
Thanks for the good time! – Came for my freinds b-day party. Normally don't write reviews but felt I had to give some props to this place. Had the best Chicken enchiladas, heard Smiths and Sinatra in Spanish, genius! and got to shake Owen wilson hand! Nice night in Hollywood! Will defintely be back. Thanks Velvet Cantina!
Don't believe the hype! – Those recipes did NOT come from granny- they came from your grocer's freezer section! I recognised that distinct mole flavor- tastes EXACTLY like the one I make- FROM A JAR! The "specialty" drinks are not only overpriced (come on! $15 for some well tequila just because you serve it in a pineapple?), but the bartenders act like they are doing you a favor by serving you. If you're into paying top dollar for mediocrity, Velvet Margarita is your Big Enchilada!
