Top notch fun – The Velvet Margarita never disappoints. Try their tamales --- OH MY GOD they are good. The food portions are huge, too! Great value for your money. The pomegranate margaritas are what dreams are made of. DE-LI-CIOUS. The staff is incredibly fun. It is always a great night out.
tasty drinks, neat atmosphere – Meant to post a while back, now I finally have time. Checked this place out with some girlfriends after drinks at nearby Citizen Smith, and really dug the atmosphere. I didn't stay long, but I drooled over the menu and the crowd seemed cool. I'll have to stop by again for those famous margaritas and some tamales. Seems like Cahuenga is the place to be!
Great Interior, Adequate Food The food is okay, but hardly stellar for Mexican food. That said, this is a place that serves margaritas and at least tries to complement the drinks with a selection of dishes. The interior is over the top with black velvet paintings and plush booths.

best cinco de mayo ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – FREE DRINKS, FREE FOOD, AND THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN HOLLYWOOD! Mariachis and the red carpet completed a celeb & tequila fueled evening!! this is the only place to do Cinco De Mayo - all tequila drinks etc FREE!!! and a walk up mex food buffet - a fabulous fabulous night!!!! so many tv/film/music names everywhere it was def the place to be!
great vibe! – Please call me when Mario Lopez comes back to the velvet!! I love him! i have been a regular every week hoping I will be able to see him again. Besides my love for Mario I love your place as well so it makes it an easy hang waiting for my future husband!! Happy holidays to all of the nice people that work there!
Vegetarian options... – I love Mexican food but am rather hesitant to order dishes in restaurants because of the lard or chicken stock style of preperation, but not here! I asked for the details for their vegetarian menu and was pleasantly surprised. I had a spinach enchilada dish that was amazing! Cool music too!
They have dancing puppets people... – I have been a regular here for about a year now and have never been let down! The food is delicious and rather inexpensive for such large portions, the music is festive to say the least ( from classic salsa to Smiths in spanish), the staff all know me by name and always make me feel at home, but what is truly unbelievable is the decor... think day of the dead meets Hollywood kitsch. The only bummer is the good ol' Cahuenga parking hassle...
my 2 cents – not one for "blogging", but i have to say that Velvet Margarita is a definate exception to the dime a dozen los angeles bummers.
