La Velvet Margarita Cantina serves up family recipes handed down through the generations in an ambiance that is Hollywood swank with Mexican flare. Aside from the extensive menu, a long list of colorfully titled drinks include the Pink Puta and the Velvet Gringo, and of course, the restaurant's namesake La Velvet Margarita. It is a Hollywood hot-spot, so dress accordingly, who knows which star you might see enjoying their Pink Puta.

Fantastic! – I dont remember Lloyds Camera looking like this! This place is visually UNBELIEVABLE! I came here for the first time on Halloween and spent almost my whole night checking out every little detail. AMAZING!
Lazy Monday... – After a horrible afternoon at work I decided to leave early and grab a well deserved cocktail. I calld up some of my less motivated friends and they told me to meet them at the Velvet Margarita for happy hour. Velvet Margarita is open for happy hour... who knew? By the time I got there, the place was in full swing! My buddy's and I stayed for hours... margaritas, chips and dip, crazy music, more margaritas... the place made me forget all about my crappy job if just for a minute! Thanks Velvet people!
The Finest Mexican Restaurant in Los Angeles! – I have never had so much fun at a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles. The Velvet Margarita Cantina is THE place!!!!! You gotta try the chicken mole. The music is great too. I never knew there was a Spanish version of Neil Diamond's "Cracklin' Rose." Also, this place is a tequila lover's dream. I got quite an education from the bartender about what makes a great tequila. I cannot imagine that there is a better selection of tequila anywhere north of the border. MUY excelente!!! – Took a Chef friend for dinner this weekend - I got the vegetarian tamales which were SO good - cheesy but not greasy and the beans were really well seasoned - friend got the salmon and loved it!! said it was perfectly cooked, and also commented on the portion size- and only $15! It was nice to be able to take a foodie somewhere for real mexican food, and impress them without paying $$$. the salsa /queso trio was really good too - REAL queso - not crappy melted cheese like in most H/wood restaurants. heard ... read more
El Stinko! – This is one of those places that will gladly take your money on a slow weeknight but try to get in on a late weekend night and you won't make it past the door...unless you have "reservations". In other words, if you're not with some bimbo on your arm or have the right look..you ain't getting in. And if you do get in, be careful of the bartenders scooping up any money that you leave on top of the bar. That happened once before on a weeknight when I was "lucky" enough to be granted entry. I'm finished with this tr... read more
No food at bar – I went to this bar/restaurant, sat at the bar and ordered a margarita. When the bartender brought it I then asked for chips and guac. like I have several times before. He informed me that they have changed their policy and no longer allow food at the bar. I might under stand if the place was packed but there were about five people at the bar. What a ridiculous policy. I have never heard of such a thing. When I explained that I didn't want to drink on an empty stomach the bartender suggested that I just drink... read more
Having a late night with a big group? – then ditch Jerry's Deli and jet across town to this spot. I celebrated my 30th birthday here with several girlfriends and had a ball. Drinks are great. Bartenders are friendly and flirty...Ooh! Happy Birthday to me!
I couldn't say it better myself... – I am a Mexican-American thirty-something male born and raised in the city of Los Angeles and rarely do I experience a refreshing spin on my beloved culture's timeless traditions. This place seems to capture every facet of Mexican-American authenticity in it's cuisine, imagery, and entertainment with sincerity, respect, and even a slight sense of humor. It's somewhat out of my character to write or read a review but I could not help myself after reading a few ignorant remarks regarding the... read more
