My mother passed away July 2 nd after 9 days in the hospital. I have been there many time and I was very pleased with the ER. Everyone was nice, engaging and helpful. From there we went to the 12 th floor and again everyone was wonderful . We ended up on the 5 th floor and I can say enough good things about this group of people. The ingornace of hospital staff to recognize that a natural food like poppyseeds can cause a false positive in a drug test is mind boggling. Not sure what medical program staff attended, but they need to ask for a refund. Disgraceful that innocent parents could face separation from their newborn because of this medical center's ignorance.
I was just at upmc in pittsburgh for a serious lower gi surgery and had to stay for 6 days. The staff on the surgical floor where all amazing .They went way above what they needed to do to help nurse me back to health. I will tell anyone i know that is looking to have ant surgery to go there. My Dr is also a rockstar in my book, Dr Rui Cruz, I wish i would have known about him years and allot of pain ago, Thanks again for everything again from myself and my family that you all made feel so welcome. The UPMC kiosks are not friendly to people with certain disabilities. If you try to check in with a person you are ALWAYS met with a rude person directing you to the kiosk. You cannot just politely decline using the kiosk and check in at a window. Basically, you’ll have to divulge why. I don’t know, does this violate hippa? People might not want a room full of strangers hearing what their disability might be. Not to mention people behind you seeing your personal info on a screen.
From the moment I walked into the ER to find where my husband was after his flight here to the tests and 3 procedures during 9 1/2 days, I was overwhelmed kindness. UPMC volunteers, skilled staff, incredible doctors, valet, cafe, housecleaning, strangers, the list go on-have been thoughtful and caring and compassionate! My faith in humanity has been restored. This complaint is NOT in regards to the medical care of the hospital network, but rather UPMC HEALTH INSURANCE!!!! Can someone PLEASE explain to me WHY my rescue inhalers are so ridiculously EXPENSIVE!?!?! And WHY my maintenance Inhaler is over $350?!?!? The UPMC insurance won’t pay for these, which will keep me out of the hospital, but the insurance WILL cover a hospitalization for asthma-acute exacerbation!!
