I went to UMPC Mckeesport to visit my grandmother and I had no idea where I was going and was really turned around. A woman who was walking outside the hospital, presumably leaving for the weekend, happened to say hello to me so I asked her if she knew where a certain building was. She not only told me, she took the time to personally walk me into the building and look up the exact room and location my grandmother was in. Her name was Dawndra Jones, the director of nursing. Well.I am a nurse and worked at UPMC.. I will tell you that I believe The greatest RIGHT a person has in the medical world is KNOWING their own body. So, go with your intuition and gut feeling. A person knows what they feel and it should be taken very serious by a professional health care worker. Yes , you put your trust in a doctor and everyone else, but , do not undermine your own thoughts in the situation. This hospital is great I have no complaints good good
I came to express care in annville Pa and couldnt even get in to be seen - the front end person asked why i was there and i said i was experiencing rapid heartbeat episodes and wanted to be checked. She went to nurse at express and she came out and said they didnt have heart area and they TURNED ME AWAY!! If i would have been having a heart attack (which i am thankful i wasn’t) i would have died in the parking lot or till I DROVE myself to nearest hospital. What an awful awful experience!!!! I was just a MVH for a ministroke and received the absolute best care ever...
I had a very rare condition called a sequestered lung in which the bottom section of my left lung didn't attach completely and only through UPMC did they identify it I had pneumonia and despite antibiotics it kept coming back. I asked around and the best Doctor was on vacation but I waited for him to come back from South Africa. He did the surgery on Monday and I went home on Saturday.
I’m very frustrated with UPMC at this point. It seems i can never get a same day appointment unless my pancreas is coming out of my eyeball. I have asthma, I suffer migraines. I don’t care what everyone elses problem is, i need an appointment today for this. I cant keep being miserable. I have what was diagnosed as a “common cold” that i’m pretty sure is now bronchitis, and i don’t have a medical degree. So when I go pay my $10 copay to be told that is whats wrong, i mean. Don't you just love those dirty, germy kiosks that everyone must use to check in? Can't wait for flu season! Plus, it can only take a $50 co-pay; mine is $10. So now, I have to check in at the kiosk AND at the desk. Yes, that makes a lot of sense. I HATE UPMC, their policies regarding Highmark insurance holders, the kiosks, and the phone calls I must make every single time I'm charged incorrectly, only to have them tell me I was billed in error.
