I did a routine VA IRRRL (streamline refinance) mortgage with LoanDepot. Actually, I had to do it twice. The paperwork on the first attempt assured me that my rate was locked for 45 days. Unfortunately, our loan officer failed to warn us that there was a hidden 30-day deadline as well--and when that elapsed, we had to restart the paperwork BUT THIS TIME IT WAS MORE EXPENSIVE. The interest rate I was quoted seemed to good to be true, so I asked the loan officer point blank if the rate I was given was with discount points, because it seemed very low for the current market. He said that no, it was without any discount points. While reviewing the loan documents, he quickly glanced over the "origination charges" section.
