The Tavern restaurant in downtown Abingdon is a step back in time. Our beautiful old building was built in 1779 and is the oldest of Abingdon's historic structures. In its original inception, it was an overnight inn for stagecoach travelers, housing famous guests such as Henry Clay, King Louis Philippe of France, and President Andrew Jackson. Love The Tavern, the food is excellent, staff very friendly, owner is hands on....see you Nov 11th or 12th, for our annual Abingdon Birthday trip. ( Make sure you get the 'historical tour' of the top floor!!
I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal here. We have eaten here numerous times over the last 22 years.
My friend and I ate at the Tavern yesterday as part of our birthday weekend. We both got the Tavern Onion soup and the Jagerschnitzel. The food was very good. Was also nice to see the German gentleman who owns the place personally come around twice to ask if we needed anything and we're enjoying our food.
