From its not-so-humble beginnings as the home of Carl Hilmer Guenther in 1860, it has been restored into one of the more unique dining experiences in the city. The breakfast menu (served all day) offers Southern Sweet Cream Waffles and breakfast tacos, among other items. Just read some less than stellar reviews re: customer service. I highly recommended this eatery to friends that are visiting from Wisconsin, where i now reside, my beautiful City of San Antonio. I hope that their visit is beyond stellar, because they're in your establishment now!
2nd time we have held a family event upstairs, and the food and service was wonderful!

I've eaten at The Guenther House for 25+ years and have always enjoyed it. Today, though, I was not very happy that we were charged for soda refills. The waitress was quite helpful and removed the extra $4.50 we were charged. Fine if you charge for refills, but it needs to either be disclosed on the menu (it's not - I checked) or the waitstaff should give a "heads up."
Employees were lacking in customer service skills. Everyone from the person checking you in to security, cashiers and waiter. Once we were seated it took almost one hour to get our food which was cold. Hot chocolate had about a tablespoon of whipped cream, butter was served in a tiny ball and we had to ask for more three times. No refills on soda's. Absolutely amazing. The coffee is amazing and the atmosphere is enchanting. Will continue to go, just make sure you're early... There tends to be a wait!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Guenther House. It was a beautiful place to visit with historic significance for San Antonio. And the food was so yummy. I enjoyed the best pancakes ever and I'm not usually a pancake fan. It's a marvelous destination to bring out of town guests or for a special event.

Since my family discovered The Guenther House last year, we have returned several times. We don't live in San Antonio but make it a point to visit because of the delicious, homemade food & attentive service.
