Enjoy a little piece of Pan-Fried history when you dine at Stroud's! The year was 1933. Prohibition had just been repealed, we were between two World Wars and Stroud's Restaurant was built. Stroud's started as a BBQ restaurant by Guy and Helen Stroud on the county line at 85th and Troost. The road house remained a BBQ restaurant until World War II. During the war, because beef was being rationed, Helen Stroud started serving its famous pan-fried chicken and unlimited sides. The original chicken dinner was only 35 cents! Thro... read more

Was OK...Nothing really lived up to the hype imo. The Sticky Buns were by far the most incredible sticky buns I've ever had.
DH is not a fried chicken fan but LOVES the cinnamon rolls. I had my usual all dark dinner. Delicious! Green beans ARE the best and love the gravy. DH had the salmon and I think he found his way to love Strouds. It was busy but our waitress was awesome with 2 large groups and us! We will be back.
We got our drinks and soup / salad fairly quickly, but it was at least 30 min to get our appetizer. After 1 1/2 hours (90 minutes!?) the food finally came, at which point we had to take it to go. At least half the other visible tables had no food either. The chicken wasn't very good. The only difference I could tell from other fried chicken I've had is that it lacked any kind of flavor and was rather dry too. I didn't even try any of the sides. I typically eat 4 pieces, I quit at 2 with no desire for more - 1 piece was a leg... read more
Major disappointment. Heard about Stroud's pan fried chicken on the Food Network and Travel Channel. Was so looking forward to trying the chicken. There was absolutely no seasoning on the chicken or coating. The coating tasted like eating a spoonful of flour deep fried in month old oil. The BLANDEST chicken I have ever eaten. How this place is considered a foodie destination is beyond comprehension.
Hadn't been to Stroud's in years but we wanted to take our son there to show him what real fried chicken tastes like. My wife loved the chicken fried chicken and my son loved his 2 leg dinner. Cinnamon rolls were better than I remember them. Chicken noodle soup was great. Service was quick and friendly. The only negative is the grilled chicken on my salad was undercooked. That's an absolute no-no. It was easy to see, since the chicken was sliced already. That plate should have never made it out of the kitchen. A new salad wa... read more
Chicken was as good as advertised, service was excellent
The waitress was delightful and the food incredible. Can't wait to eat here again.
One of the best meals I've ever had! Definitely a must have before you die!
We come to this restaurant a couple times a year. We have never been dissatisfied or disappointed. Early November, my cousins from New Jersey wanted to experience the Kansas local eaterys, so we brought them here. THEY TOO LOVED IT!!! Well done, Strouds, well done.
