Enjoy a little piece of Pan-Fried history when you dine at Stroud's! The year was 1933. Prohibition had just been repealed, we were between two World Wars and Stroud's Restaurant was built. Stroud's started as a BBQ restaurant by Guy and Helen Stroud on the county line at 85th and Troost. The road house remained a BBQ restaurant until World War II. It's good, but not consistent. Sometimes the chicken is soggy, and sometimes the gravy is flavorless. However, I am a sucker for mashed potatoes and gravy which they have PLENTY of. The service is HORRIBLE. I have not seen one server crack a smile or even attempt to be polite. Today the waitress did try to make conversation once by telling us she had to go to the bathroom really bad... Picking up carryout is the only time I have left this location happy.

Only go to the NKC location, this one is terrible.
Stroud's is a jewel in the crown of Kansas City's foodie restaurant royalty. This is family style dining that honors the style, with crisp, personable service no matter how busy, and it always is. My first meal here made me deeply ashamed of ever having eaten KFC, as there is no substitute for the hot, crunchy, made for you poultry plated on dishes mom would have used.
