About this business

As an ode to his Israeli roots, Chef Alon Shaya created Shaya as an innovative restaurant with elements borrowed from his Middle-Eastern ancestry. Shaya's menu is a reverential treasure which was crafted with recipes from his grandmother. The chef attempts to blend the indigenous flavors of Israel with a New Orleans twist, and the menu features dishes such as the Louisiana Shrimp Shakshouka and the more traditional matzo ball soup, among others. In the spirit of his warm Israeli hospitality, some dishes are designed to be sh... read more

The wait is long but oh is it worth it ! Directed to this location via a podcast and they were not lying. The lamb ragu hummus with whole chickpeas over top!?!? Oh my god my mouth exploded. Out of my whole trip to new Orleans this is hands down one of the best stops. The service was excellent as well. 10/10 would dine again.

Popular place (reservation is a must), outstanding food, absolutely comfortable space, somewhat forgetful service - can happen on a busy night, still bothering when it does. Portions are very generous and the constant flow of pita bread fills you up quicker than expected. Picked 3 salatims, could never get bored with the brussels sprouts dish. Tried one small plate and one large, both were lamb dishes - to die for.

Shaya was the best! My daughter was in town for a few days from California and I live here. My daughter loves Israeli food and I am so glad that she chose Shaya! I am new to Israeli food and I didn’t know what I was missing! I loved the baba gonush and the pita bread was amazing! I had the chicken schnitzel sandwich, it was delicious! My daughter had baba gonush and her favorite, a falafel, which she loved! I live in the suburbs, so I don’t get to New Orleans very often! I highly recommend Shaya, it is a fantastic dining expe... read more

Loved everything about this. Vibe and style of the space. Professionalism of the staff. And the food, wow. The diversity and simplicity of the menu. The quality and creativity of the plates. A complete experience.

I've eaten in Miami, Hawaii, L.A., Dallas and Houston, D.C. Puerto Rico, Atlanta, Mississippi, and all over Louisiana, and this restaurant is the absolute best I've ever been to. I'm not exaggerating. The music is reminds you of cool breezes and early evenings city. It's loud enough to embellish the atmosphere, but it's not distracting and overpowering. It's not crowded, but there are enough people around to enjoy a social environment. Whoever decorated the place should get an IDA Award. Go and watch a movie that's set in Ca... read more

Took forever to get a reservation...but SO worth the wait. The menu has a small selection (my husband was worried) but each item seems to be perfected! The ambiance was clean and lighting was perfect but the nose level was over the top and hard for conversation. Wait staff was friendly and ever present without feeling intrusive or rushed. For starters they bring fresh wood fired bread with olive oil and seasonings. We ordered the asparagus and snap pea hummus, tabouli, roasted Brussels sprouts, ikra and the market fish (whic... read more
