Just got back from a four day stay where our group had four rooms. We all found the hotel staff to be incredibly friendly, helpful and efficient. The rooms were clean, cool (with outside temps in the high 90's) and well appointed. Sure the hotel has some age on it, but what in Savannah doesn't? The view of the river, the cargo ships coming and going, and the resident river gator made the balcony one of our favorite places. We dined in the restaurant for breakfast and it was excellent! Best hotel that we have ever stayed in. 5 stars +++×+ Indoor pool, outdoor pool, right on river to watch ships coming in and going out. Plenty of space. Best ever!!! We decided to splurge a little and booked a room here last weekend through expedia. The hotel had a nice view, it was clean, and very close to the river street. BUT...apparently when you book through expedia when you choose a room with two double beds, it's only a request and not a guarantee. We got there and we had a room with one king size bed for two adults, a 13 year old, and a 9 year old. When I told them there was a mistake I was told the room choice is not guaranteed. Late check-in resulted in one king bed for a family of four - with teenage kids. The hotel was over-booked... They only had one extra bed left. Hubby get to sleep on the floor tonight- expensive camping!
I checked in and my bathroom had urine all over the toilet seat, the bathroom was half cleaned. I notified hotel desk and they said they would give me a small compensation via a partial room credit and they immediately cleaned the bathroom. I left out the next morning at 10a.m to enjoy Savannah, Ga and shop only to returned at 5p.m. to a messy room, no towels, bed not made up, bathroom dirty, and the garbage not emptied. Worst hotel. The only nice thing is that it's on the water. No air-conditioning in the room.. It smells like mold, as well as it looking like a motel. Booked a room with 2 beds and only got 1, along with 20 other people. They were not accommodating and they over booked 27 rooms that they DO NOT have. Also there room where the complimentary drinks and breakfast is, is locked down!
Let me explain to you my experience with this hotel, its staff, and hotel manager. This was by far the worse customer service experience I have had ever in my life. I had booked a 2 queen room while on the road. We were headed Douglas Georgia for my Father's sister's funeral. The accommodating staff, the amenities like spa, restaurants, easy access to River street, nice long patio overlooking the river and indoor pool are the only reason this hotel is getting 3 stars instead of 1. I've stayed here once before and wasn't in love with it- parking is not great and there has been construction ongoing on the road for several years. The rooms were dated and have a smell to them. All of the staff was excellent. I was sitting in the lobby struggling with Mt tablet and the public WI Fi when a young lady named Claire came up to me and asked if I needed anything. I mentioned that I was having problems getting connected to the Internet. She then showed me step by step just what to do. Thanks Marriott for the pleasure to stay at rhetoric Savannah location.
