Ruby s Diner was established in 1980, after junior-high buddies Doug Cavanaugh and Ralph Kosmides renovated a dilapidated building on the end of Balboa Pier in Newport Beach, Calif. The 1940s-style restaurant, which was located in a former bait shop, became an immediate hit, taking in $600,000 in the first year. In the second year, sales exceeded $1 million. Love this place. Food is great service is excellent.
The breakfast special was just the right amount of food and a good pice. The waitress was really nice. I will definitely go back.

Jose G was the best server I've had in my life. My family and I (wife and 3 kids) walked in at about 15 minutes before close without realizing they closed at 9 on a weekday and he welcomed us happily, sat us, and treated us like royalty. Not ever a hint of rushing us. And the entire place was as spotless as an operating room. My daughter said "you could perform surgery in here". Even the ceilings were clean.
