The idea for Ruby’s Diner was born in 1980 after a run on the beach. Doug Cavanaugh had just returned to his native Southern California after successfully restoring and running a restaurant on Nantucket Island off Cape Cod. Tried to go inside but the wait was 35 mins (I noticed half the tables were empty and the bathrooms were 😝) and we didn't have enough time on parking meter so we ordered from the to go window. Everthing was the same cost as inside, but portions were much smaller. We requested cheesbuger be cut in half, got 1/3rd,-2/3rd. And bottom bun wasn't cut at all. Plus it was tasteless!
