Mixed feelings – I love the setting of this restaurant. The tables are the perfect size for dates. Our waiter, while extremely gracious, had an undertone of disdain. We were looking for our waiter half the time we were sitting there. The food itself, aside from the appetizer, was extremely rich. The appetizer (small dish) was very good. (Some kind of salad with sun-dried tomato and blue cheese?) If you are going in a group of about six, make a reservation to have a corner booth.
SLAP IN THE FACE restaurant! – Food was below average while price was vice versa but that doesn't matter because your whole time there will be spent steaming over the service. It gave an impression that the waiters goes out of their way to avoid you; you have to wave your hand just to get their attention. terrible restraunt in town – My wife and I had a terrible experience with this restaurant. We tried out the 3 course pre-fixed manual which is $31.00 each person. What I ordered for the main dish is "beef stew", my wife "fettuccine with mussel". When they arrived, both of us can't believe our eyes: the fettuccine is virtually good for only 3 bits, with three tiny mussels in. The beef stew looks exactly like a canned beef soup. Still Running Strong – I've been going to Lulus since the early 90s when they first opened up, and it's still running strong. Great wine list, many wines by the taste or half glass, as well as solid drinks poured by the bartenders. Kumamoto oysters and prawns are always a must, followed by the portabello w/polenta, the proscuitto pizza, the cast iron skillet mussels, the rotisserie chicken and pork loin are solid bets. I've moved on from it being one of my faves after college, but I still find my way back.
Worst experience esp for surprise birthday party! – Tried Zibiboo and it was alright so I decided to try out LuLu for a best friends' surprise birthday party. The host did not show the birthday boy and myself the table, rather just pointed and told us to find it ourselves. Rowdy groups seating near us were screaming and staff didn't help to calm the situation.Service was extremly slow and we waited 1 1/2 for our entress after we had our apetizers. Bad Food – The chef must not have been in the kitchen the night we ate there. Our food was so salty we had to turn down some of the items. The server was kind enough to take them off of our bill though.
Was a fan...not any longer! – Used to be a huge fan. Went recently and was not impressed. The food - average and expensive. We were with a group of 8... might as well have been 20. Was so deafening you could only talk/hear the person next to you. Our waiter took advantage of the noise, chaos, and large group by bringing out a bunch of app's we didn't order - doubling the order for each side of the table. Great Food and Service – I recently had dinner at Lulu and what an experience. I can see how it's made it all of these years. The food was still as wonderful as I remember and the friendly service; no wonder it's outlasted most restaurants in San Francisco. So... I would say check it out! Things are still incredible!
One word...ATROCIOUS! – I don't normally write editorial feedback but this experience was too awful to keep to myself. I attended a dinner for around 20 guests at LuLus. It was planned on the recommendation of a colleague who visited last year. First bad experience was with their party planner. He was condescending, rude and made me feel as if my group wasn't large enough to deserve his time.
