Others may claim it, but Ralph's is the oldest family-owned Italian restaurant in the country. Four generations of the same family have owned and operated this South Philadelphia restaurant since its inception in 1900. One hundred years later, they work as hard as Francesco Dispigno and his son Ralph to maintain the tradition that has been built for a century. Everything is made to order with the finest ingredients used in recipes that have been passed down from one generation to another. Room available for parties up for 60... read more

Over-Rated Big Time – Ate there twice ( first & last ) several years ago. The food was cheesey - no pun intended. Way over-rated. No real Italian cook would serve that food. My mother would have been shocked that they even called that real/good Italian food. In addition the place was noisey and tight. No ambiance at all. Real low end. Management could care less if customer was happy with the food.
Simply the Best! – Excellent food (*my favorite* is the Veal with artichoke hearts and the Mussels in red sauce), friendly, attentive and warm wait staff, skilled bartenders and unique specials make it worth the 2 1/2 hour drive from Scranton just for dinner! I purchased the restaurant's cookbook but I would much prefer to eat my favorites there! A trip to Philly would not be complete without dinner at Ralph's!
Go once – ... after the first time, you'll likely say, "I'm glad I checked out this Philadelphia landmark." and never go again. Not because it isn't a good meal, just that there are so many other interesting restaurants in Philadelphia, there's not likely to be something else on the menu at Ralph's you'd be compelled to come back to to order.
Too much rep, not enough substance – You hear that Ralph's is the greatest Italian food in Philly, however the food portions are small negating all sense of value and the service leaves a lot to be desired such as common courtesy. The ambience is nice being in an establishment that is around 100 years old, but it is certainly cramped in there. My sugestion to you is to find a restaurant that gives you more for your money and you won't be robbed of an unbelievable experience at Ralph's, believe me.
The best Italian – Ralph's is so wonderful, the food, the service, the atmosphere! This is our favorite italian restaurant in the area, and we're never disappointed! I recommend the chicken sorrento - it's to die for!
Belissomo – the food was a surprise and very pleasing to the pallet.
what's the hype? – Ok so Ralph's been around a long time. Without revamping the menu and consistancy- they are left in the dust by other restaurants. I am a vegetarian. I dine out at Italian restaurants for the variety. When I ask for marinara I don't expect meat sauce!
Best Italian – Ralph's is the best Italian food I have eaten outside of my mother's kitchen. There are so many homemade sauce/gravy and pasta options - there is something for everyone. The veal dishes and calamari are phenomenal too and we've always had great, attentive service. Ralph's is a great place to go on a date or with family and friends...just remember to hit the ATM first - they don't take credit cards.
Bad service, no cards, cramped – Poor gets one star. This place is worse than poor so it gets no stars. Why this place is so popular is a miracle. The food is good, but not good enough that all other aspects that make for a bad restaurant should be ignored (lack of adequate space for patrons, a rude service staff that is both slow and arrogant, the failure to accept credit cards, etc.). The spaghetti and meatballs I ordered came with enough spaghetti to fill up a six year old. It looked more like a side dish that was poured ... read more
