About this business

Others may claim it, but Ralph's is the oldest family-owned Italian restaurant in the country. Four generations of the same family have owned and operated this South Philadelphia restaurant since its inception in 1900. One hundred years later, they work as hard as Francesco Dispigno and his son Ralph to maintain the tradition that has been built for a century. Everything is made to order with the finest ingredients used in recipes that have been passed down from one generation to another. Room available for parties up for 60... read more

Red Sauce and Cheese – While Ralph's may not be haute cuisine by any measure, it delivers with its traditional Italian American standards. Great pasta dishes, eggplant parm, meatballs, and veal. Can be quite loud and busy on weekends, ask to be seated in the 3rd level wich is carpeted. Great and reliable place though all around.

not as good as it used to be – We've been going to Ralphs about twice a year for the past 5 years and its been one of our favorites up untill this year. I'm not sure what happened to the management but the atmosphere completely changed, the service is very rushed typical of what you expect at a chain resturant, the prices went up, and portions got smaller. I understand the increase in price but dont decrease your portions, its the first time I've ever left there with no left overs and still feeling hungry (I had apps, dinner... read more

Best pasta – I have been going to Philly twice a year for six years and I always look forward to dining at Ralph's. the best pasta always al dente. my favorite is the pescatore if you like seafood this is the dish to have. great deserts too. If your looking for a place where all the locals go for dinner this is the best.

one of the best in the country Ralph's is the oldest italian restaurant in the country, and when you walk in it has the old feeling decor. The tables are real close, don't be surprised if your elbows hit the guy next to you.

Take It From A Philly Native- Avg Food Rude Service – Ralph's is simply average. The wait staff is on the rude side. They are just ok...easy to forget. The price point is fair to a little on the high side.

A great evening! – We read the reviews and although alot said the food was good, but, several said the waitstaff left something to be desired, well guess what, they were as friendly and accomodating as any waitstaff I have encountered. We not only can rave about the food, (it is a 9.5 for sure) but we enjoyed the waiters. They all were friendly, helpful and reason to go back! R. Rector, Delaware

Pillar of the Italian Market fills bellies with elemental South Philly fare. – In Short Ralph's reputation keeps the famished and the famous returning to its two historic floors. There's not much you won't recognize on the menu. Pasta and red sauce--also known as gravy in these parts--are staples, so stick to them. Basic veal dishes are the house specialty--choose from a tender cutlet dressed in egg yolk, or one topped with prosciutto, sauce and Parmesan.

Known for the Veal not the service – The only thing that my boyfriend and I go back for is the Veal Rollantine...two very moist breasts topped with cheese in a reduced buttery/wine mushroom sauce that is to die for! Not a fan of veal? They were able to make it using chicken even though it wasn't on the menu. The mussels are always inconsistent, on a good night, which it was, the red sauce is spectacular. We always go for the veal, it will always be a neighborhood fav of mine.
