Others may claim it, but Ralph's is the oldest family-owned Italian restaurant in the country. Four generations of the same family have owned and operated this South Philadelphia restaurant since its inception in 1900. One hundred years later, they work as hard as Francesco Dispigno and his son Ralph to maintain the tradition that has been built for a century. Everything is made to order with the finest ingredients used in recipes that have been passed down from one generation to another. Room available for parties up for 60... read more

A must at least one time – Ralph?s is must place to eat at least once. ?It is what it is? as far as food, location, and service. Being a family run restaurant and staffed by East coast attitude, I can?t see how any complaints of the service matter. It is what it is and probably does very well because customers accept the little things like simple bread, less than warm service (which seems to be a trait of East coast business anyway), and the possibility of a mediocre dish served. The location is fine for me since we walk the... read more
Disappointing – After seeing 4+ stars, 7 of us ventured to Ralph's from Wilmington on a Sunday night for a birthday dinner...reservations at 6. It was crowded and would ultimately become packed. I'm not sure why. Two of us had Ralph's specials, veal and artichokes and chicken sorrento; both were tasteless and oily. The artichoke hearts came right out of a can (I know because that is the way I eat them at home!) and the veal was tough. The lobster diablo was so spicy that you couldn't enjoy the expensive lobster. The clams ca... read more
AWFUL – I recently attended a dinner here for my cousin. this is her favoriate place and for the life of me I can't see why. First of all after driving around south philly for over 30 minutes I was finally forced to park in a no parking zone and received a $31.00 ticket. The facility itself is very small and cramped and EXTREMELY LOUD. I mean you can barely hear the waiter over the noise. OK so I figure if the food is all that it should be....then the noise and the ticket would be worth it. WRONG again!!! the food was terrib... read more
The Worst! – This place has obviously seen better days. Who's paying Zagat to give it a rating of 20? The food is so low brow and over priced you can get the same garbage in a pizzeria for way less. Would never go back again. It puts southern Italian food to shame. The bread, for starters is the equivalent to wonder bread with a crust and the rest of the cuisine is prepared by those who have no feel what so ever for what good quality southern Italian food is about. It's a tourist trap for those who don't know what good Itali... read more
lackluster – sauces are just disappointing, salmon is dry, the rest is mediocre...cute family atmosphere is refreshing
The best Italian food ever, great ambience – The restaurant feels like your own dining room. It's very relaxed, the servers are friendly but don't hound you throughout the meal. The food is incredible. The eggplant parm is my favorite. It's so tender, with the perfect amount of cheese and sauce. The house wines are great! The cheesecakes are also amazing. They're creamy, but not too sweet. This is my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. It's cozy, not pretentious and surprisingly affordable. For the quality of food they serv... read more
Great Food, Bad Service – This food was absolutely great. I mean, all out delicious. I can barely describe it. All your traditional Southern Italian cuisine freshly prepared and homemade. (You've gotta get a side salad. Great dressing.) But the service is extremely lacking. They order your food, drop it off, and ask for the check. That's it. Nothing more.
Tired of Hearing about Ralph's – It makes me laugh when i hear people talk about how good Ralph's is. This place is mediocre at best. The only good thing about it is the music. If you enjoy the food here than you obviously have never eaten authentic italian food. In that neighborhood there is at least 3 better choices. I have never eaten here where i walked away and said wow the food was great. Never. Whats the big deal. The service is OK but the seating is tight. I enjoy loud restaurants so the noise didn't bother me, but t... read more
good standard italian food – Best spaghetti and meatballs I've ever had, great sauce, pasta cooked to perfection. Bread that is addictive. Meat dishes very pricey. Not exactly fancy atmosphere; powdered parmesean cheese in shaker on table. Service standard, very cramped space, but overall I would recommend for good, quick, sandard pasta. I'll be back.
