Others may claim it, but Ralph's is the oldest family-owned Italian restaurant in the country. Four generations of the same family have owned and operated this South Philadelphia restaurant since its inception in 1900. One hundred years later, they work as hard as Francesco Dispigno and his son Ralph to maintain the tradition that has been built for a century. Everything is made to order with the finest ingredients used in recipes that have been passed down from one generation to another. Room available for parties up for 60... read more

Average – Well, I don;t know what to say about Ralph's. their veal dishes have been excellent and I love the atmosphere. The lasagna was good but not great. The plain old pastat dishes were mediocre. This, in an area so rich in good italian restaurants, is not enough. I would only go when in the mood for veal.
Try the veal! – I ate here last weekend with a large group and had an amazing meal. I got the artichoke veal, which comes in a white wine sauce, and it was delicious! Other people in my party also loved the veal parmesan, citing it as the best they've ever had. The service was decent, ambiance loud (but authentic!). Will definitely go back. Also thinking about buying their cookbook to see if I can replicate how great the meal was!
decent, but over-hyped – Though I didn't find it as exceptional as many have claimed, I did have a good meal of simple Italian fare. The service and the quality of the food were slightly above average, and the prices are reasonable. It gets quite crowded, and the tables are put very closely together. It definitely has a family atmosphere. I can see how people could become regulars there, but would not call it a place for anything "special." I would not recommend it for a date, but it'd be nice for a large group. Be sure to m... read more
OK – Food is good. Service isn't anything to rave about. Depending on where you sit it can be very busy.
Great!!!! – I travel up from from Baltimore to go there. The food is always good , the waiters are efficient, and the atmosphere is old time 30's. PS-- Lunch is fantastic also.
Good food but... – The food was excellent (with the exception of hair in the food, but that's not a big deal just an accident). The staff was o.k. at best. Be prepared to be packed in like sardines. You can barely move. Everyone can hear what you are talking about, and the door opens right up to the street where freezing gusts of wind come rushing through the restaurant. Those things weren't such a big deal. The one big turnoff was the crowd inside. Dirtballs wearing white tanktops, saying f this and f that who ate like anim... read more
