About this business

Opened in 1771 by Colonel Ebenezer Crafts, the Publick House Historic Inn offers a charming and historical stay. The inn was used during the American Revolution as a training ground for soldiers and rumor has it that George Washington even stopped by. In fact, Publick House has always been an inn and restaurant except during World War II when it was used by the army. Guests can decide whether to stay in the historic building of Publick House or in one of the newer buildings like Country Lodge which is located in an apple orc... read more

Went there for dinner with my hubby and Mother in law on her recommendation. Loved the atmosphere and the food was very good! Our waitress was one that my mother in law remembered from years ago when she used to go there. Our waitress was very busy but always made sure she stopped by to refill drinks and to check on us.

Business response:

We had our daughter's wedding there on October 8, 2016. The service provided by the entire staff was incredible. The atmosphere of the Barn and Paige Hall venue was the exact rustic, New England setting Casey and John wanted. The food was phenomenal both at the cocktail hour and dinner reception. The grounds were magnificent! The entire event was intimate, cozy, elegant, and so much more than we imagined, Throughout the process Lisa Lacoste and her staff were thoughtful, attentive, and so very patient with us. Awful food. Took almost 90 minutes to get our order and when we did it was cold. The excuse given was that they were busy because of a wedding. Perhaps hiring more staff would improve service? Especially during big events.

We had breakfast at the Tap Room on Thursday, October 6. It was awful. Scrambled eggs and potatoes were greasy mess. Eggs Benedict were swimming in a sauce that bore no resemblance to hollandaise. Everything was cold.

I have been going to the Publick House for almost 30 years, ever since I was a little girl. In the last few years, my now husband and I go there at least 5 times a year. We absolutely love it and we spent our first Wedding Anniversary there yesterday!! It was fantasitic. The only thing that I wish they still had was their French Onion soup. Maybe they could bring it back someday

Business response:
