About this business

If they built a sushi bar on the space station from 2001: A Space Odyssey and Austin Powers stopped by with Derek Flint and James Bond, this is what it would look like. The motif is all white and translucent plastic, with colored lights and flat screen monitors all over. When you sit on the cushions in the lounge area, they light up. There are 16 possible light settings in the private cubicles (parties of six only). The wait staff is dressed in plain gray t-shirts. Techno and lounge music play softly. Even the bathroom cubic... read more

For sushi lover – I love this place. Great sushi, service, great food, everything here is great. except valet parking is expensive. I like to sit at the sushi bar. i can just grab sushi whenever i want and it's easy to request sushi you want to the chef.

Trendy scene, food ok – I was excited to visit pod mostly because of the interior/atmosphere, and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't upscale chic, but it was definitely funky asian meets the jetson's. The service was pretty good, but it seemed that the servers were a bit too inexperienced. As for the food, the appetizers were great; crab spring rolls were awesome, the kobe beef was spectacular (it is prepared tableside). If I go back, I would probably order just appetizers. The entrees were average. The lobster was good, not gr... read more

What are we paying for again? – i felt like the waiter should have asked me "would you like some food with this atmosphere?"...meaning your paying for the atmosphere..i almost felt as if i was going to sit and look around, and use the cool bathrooms, rather than eating the food. It most cases the atmosphere is used just to compliment the food...but it was definitley the other way around with POD. I recomend that you go there with a larger group of people, rent out one of there "PODS" for priovate parties, and order nothing b... read more

Nothing Spectacular – The space is interesting. Looks somewhat Morimoto-esque, but cheaply done. The acoustics are pretty bad, very loud. The servers are all in Dickies work pants... I felt like I was at a construction site convention. I don't know what they were trying to accomplish there. Needless to say, they were not flattering at all. The servers are very friendly and attentive. The Sushi was great. Fresh, nice;y prepared and served. For appetizers, we had the Spicy Tempura Shrimp. Very tasty and it was a good portion. ... read more

POD - Exceeded Expectations – I've been to Pod several times and will continue to go back. If people haven't been for quite awhile, I recommend giving it another try. I have seen the continued improvements over the past few years and so have other people - the place is packed all of the time. From the food, to the service to the atmosphere - the place can't be beat. The sushi is wonderful and fresh. The food is creative and delicious. Whenever we have out of town guests we bring them to POD and they can't believe how good ev... read more

Just not for sushi – After hearing the hype for years, I finally made it to Pod and was sorely disappointed. The sushi was some of the worst Ive had in Philly and way to expensive. If you want good sushi for a good price, go to Kisso. The other entrees were very good and worth the price. Just stay away from the sushi. Most of it is wrapped in rice paper that doesnt dissolve quickly enough and tastes too strong. The bathrooms were cool though.

Just what do you think you're doing Dave? – An entertaining dining experience. Reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Pod delivers delicious food in an entertaining setting. A large white dining room flanked by color changing pods for large groups overlooks a sushi bar with a conveyor belt around it with rotating selections and an overhead HDTV with old Japanese movies. The glazed sea bass and teriyaki salmon are good choices. The pad thai is served in a neverending bowl and is enough for two people. The sashimi we tried were... read more

Good place for a sushi snack. – I've been to pod several times, but have only ever sat at the sushi bar for a couple rolls of maki. I've always ordered directly from the chefs so I can't comment on the conveyor belt plates of sushi. Also, I've never ordered anything off the menu. The young wait staff has always been polite, though occasionaly frazzled, but with all the neon and Japanimation in pod, I suppose that's expected. The maki here is just about average or slightly above. Certainly much better than any grocery store s... read more

Blah – I have been there twice, so far. I was not impressed the first time, but decided to give it another chance after all the hype of the new Starr restaurant died down. My opinion hasn't changed. Philly doesn't have great sushi and this place is about as average as any other in the city. The menu is unimaginative, however the drinks are delicious! What makes it worse is that the restaurant is adjacent to a hotel, so on any given night you are likely to be surrounded by tourists and their children. I think the tourists are... read more
