About this business

If they built a sushi bar on the space station from 2001: A Space Odyssey and Austin Powers stopped by with Derek Flint and James Bond, this is what it would look like. The motif is all white and translucent plastic, with colored lights and flat screen monitors all over. When you sit on the cushions in the lounge area, they light up. There are 16 possible light settings in the private cubicles (parties of six only). The wait staff is dressed in plain gray t-shirts. Techno and lounge music play softly. Even the bathroom cubic... read more

An ultra modern space delivers cutting edge Asian fusion. – In Short Shiny, red foam couches, sit-down-light-up stools and elevated, egg-shaped rooms with neon lights that change colors set the tone in this modern joint. College students and hip foodies gather around the conveyor belt sushi bar or squeeze into "pods" for Asian-fueled cuisine. Try the specialty Hawaiian marlin in corn and avocado salsa, crab pad thai with sweet noodles, pot stickers stuffed with pork, or spice-infused aged beef--all served family-style.

Fun, inviting, invigorating – Went to Pod on a Friday night with my wife. We had 8:30 reservations and waited about 10 minutes to get a table. Perfect in my world so we can grab a cocktail by the bar and soak up the scenery and check out the crowd. A nice mix of couples, groups, families, frat boys, and so forth. The ambiance is a retro-modern look reminiscent of an old space oddysey movie. The servers wear light blue shirts with a darker, but still pale blue Dickie pants, they looked absurd but fit in with the vibe of the p... read more

Unique Atmosphere but a Bad Dining Experience – We were impressed by the the futuristic surroundings here, but were totally disapointed with the horribly prepared food. Ten of us ordered the $55 per head price under the Pod menu options. Total bill was about $85 a head with drinks. Service was ok, but the food was perhaps the worst weve had in Philly in an upscale restaurant. The sushi was mediocre, the Caesar salad was soggy (veggies overripe), the pork loin was tough, the filet of beef overdone (we ordered it rare), and th... read more

Fun, but not worth the price tag – Say what you will, but I prefer quality food over being seen someplace trendy. Food was decent, but way overpriced. A la carte sushi was ok, but nothing to write home about. That it was priced about twice as high as any true Japanese restaurant made the taste that much worse. While everyone in our party of 4 enjoyed their meals, we were appalled at the bill. Way overpriced to say the least. The one redeeming quality of Pod was its staff. Accomodating & friendly, they kept our glasses full &... read more

Worst. Ever. – Pod is just awful. I love Stephen Starr restaurants, but Pod is the total exception. Everything was horribly overpriced and the drinks were some of the weakest I have ever had. For a dinner for two, with two drinks each, the price came to over $100, and it was just not worth it at all. Pass this one by!

Amazing – Last week, several girlfriends and I dined at Pod for the first time after hearing constant outstanding reviews. The atomosphere and food were wonderful and the crowd and staff was uplifting and upbeat. The cocktails were sensational as well as festive, do try the liquid remedies! One friend was a vegetarian in addition to having a food allergy, I found that the menu was accomidating to her needs and our server handled the situation very professionally. The overall dining experience was the best I have ever had.

Wow! Best Kept Secret in Philadelphia – My Girlfriend and I have dined all around the world--and love sushi--so we were taken aback by the quality of sushi, and the hip quality of this restaurant. NIce touch with the movie selections playing over the conveyor sushi bar (retro sci-fi, anime, godzilla, barbarella). My girlfriend tried items off of the regular menu, which has something for everyone--wasabi crusted filet mignon, with wasabi mashed potatoes; also the sake marinated seabass with the japanese puree of sweet potatoe... read more

Great Food and Fun – THE best dining experience. Get a POD and enjoy. You don't even have to like sushi, went with a picky eater and there was something for everyone on the menu. The Pod menu is great for a large party. Highly recommend the miso soup! Be prepared to spend some money!

Favorite Philly Restaurant – This restaurant is a ton of fun if you are young and have some money to blow. It is definitely not a "good value," but neither is any other Starr restaurant. The sushi is as good as you're going to get in Philly (not bad, but not as good as, say, LA), and the rest of the menu is fantastic. I recommend just getting a bunch of appetizers and sushi and passing it around instead of ordering entrees. This is definitely a place to come with friends, not with a date or a family. The atmosphere definitel... read more
