Thank you to all of our loyal customers and greetings to those of you who are just now finding us. We have had the pleasure (and sometimes headaches) of being in the hospitality business for over 30 years. We are continuing in our tradition of presenting wonderful ingredients and offering a world class collection of Wines, Ports and Madeira to match. We have kept many of our upscale Indian dishes and added some exciting non-Indian dinners with our Chef's Whimsy Wine Paired events. We are still located in the Meirs mansion on... read more

Relaxed yet formal... – Thuy, the new owner, spent some time chatting with us while we were enjoying our meal. She was charming and very enjoyable to listen to. The food was excellent and balanced in the approach to how it was brought out. Intricate flavors abounded. We went on Valentines Day and the meal was pre-set. In a sentence, we would go again and have the same menu, it was that good. The wine selections were excellent, we chose the Lava Cap and were in agreement with the staff recommendations! Our server checked in w... read more
Best place in Portland for a relaxed, romantic dinner – When you want to spend a relaxed evening (2 1/2 to 3 hours) having a supreb, romantic dinner, this is the place to go! Our server, Nita, not only gave us excellent advice on wine and dinner selections, but also explained that the chef was willing to work with my dietary restrictions (lactose and gluten-free) and our request for spicier than usual food. Overall, the service was outstanding. We ended up having a nice bottle of Pinot Noir and Dahi Wada to start. Then we sh... read more
Pleasently surprised, wonderful service and my first experience with Indian food – My son and I decided to take my wife to dinner for her birthday and Plainfield's created a most memorable experience. The ambiance of the restaurant, the cusine and the prompt, courteous service were genuinely appreciated. I had never tasted Indian food but luckily my son is somewhat of an expert. He and the waiter collaborated on our menu choices and what a fine job they did. The food was truly a wonderful adventure for both my wife and I. I ... read more
Delightfully authentic Indian cuisine. – This was certainly not my first dining experience at Plainfield's Mayur, however, it was the first in about 6 months....and the first time I was actually inspired to write a review. Plainfield's has been a long time favorite of my family, and we were delighted to return after a less than satisfactory experience a few months ago, and find both the food quality and service restored to the former excellence we had come to revere at this fine restaurant. We discovered there is now a new c... read more
Very Romantic, but service was a little slow – We were new to Indian food, but were very pleased with what we found and Plainfields. We enjoyed the cozy setting and had a real great time. Service was slow, but I believe it was actually intentional. (trying to allow us time to talk and enjoy the environment)
Best Indian in the United States – I love this restaurant. Every time we go, whether it's for Valentines Day or just because I'm craving the Dahi Wadas, we always have a great time and leave feeling as though we've had the best meal of our lives. The staff at Plainfields are all very knowledgeable, friendly and great to talk with. Highly Recommended!!!!
Could be great, but isn't. Bad and slow customer service, luke-warm food, expensive. – I went with a group of 9 on Friday night. The number in the reservation fluctuated a bit, but the flexability at this resteraunt was horrible. First, they sat us at 2 tables for almost an hour without coming to take drink orders. Oddly, it appeared that they purposefully avoided eye contact with anyone at our tables. Nearly an hour after we sat, the waiter came to take our order, but a significant portion of their menu was no longer availa... read more
Worst Service Ever – I went to this restaurant for a birthday celebration and was so surprised at how poor the service and friendliness of that staff was. They had signs and plaquards up about how "great" they were, which was all false. Our waiter never brought us menus, the water filler lady did, and they neglected to tell us that they were out of chicken! How can a restaurant that is "high end" run out of items like that? To make matters worse, the waiter did not take our order for 49 minutes. Yes 49. When he did come and ... read more
Gimme Naan of that – This place has such potential that it is truly sad that it lives up to their bad reputation. The house is beautiful, the artwork is great, and the location could be perfect for an off-the-main-drag Indian restaurant. I read the bad reviews and thought, "How could it be that bad?" I went to see for myself and give it a try. I love Indian food. Indian food loves me. Unfortunately, Plainfield's failed to disprove any of their bad reviews. The service was slow (we waited 45 minutes at our reserved table befo... read more
