Thank you to all of our loyal customers and greetings to those of you who are just now finding us. We have had the pleasure (and sometimes headaches) of being in the hospitality business for over 30 years. We are continuing in our tradition of presenting wonderful ingredients and offering a world class collection of Wines, Ports and Madeira to match. We have kept many of our upscale Indian dishes and added some exciting non-Indian dinners with our Chef's Whimsy Wine Paired events. We are still located in the Meirs mansion on... read more

Awesome service, delightful food – I hosted a party for 15 people on the Plainfield's patio last evening. My bill came to $300 and we all ate our fill of the wonderful food. Presentation was fantastic. Service was pleasant, thorough and discrete. Personally, I don't like the hovering, overly perky, water sloshing wait staff. If you want that go to Red Robin. Here the staff promptly fulfilled our many and varied requests with a smile. As to the poster who complained about no high chairs...USE YOUR HEAD! There are places where... read more
CHILD UNFRIENDLY – I brought a 10 month old and was all but refused seating on an empty monday. They have no boosters or highchairs, and made it crystal clear that I shouldn't bring my child. My child was not crying or fussing at all by the way and we were being seated in a room by ourselves. I have been eating at Plainfields a few times a year for 12 years, and more for atmosphere than for the medeocre food. This is a nice place, but you get the impression the staff is superior to you. NEVER AGAIN.
Atmosphere isn't everything – Great atmosphere. Good food too. But when I think of Indian food, I don't think of "gourmet" Indian food. This seems to be an interpretation of Indian food by a gourmet chef. No doubt, it's good, but do I really need to spend $100 a head to eat out? If you want to impress and have a really good "gourmet Indian meal" in a very romantic spot, this is the place. If you're simply looking for good and authentic Indian food, keep looking.
Speaking as an Indian... – These people really know their stuff! I love it when an Indian restaurant focuses more on refinement of masalas and spices than just the heat, and some of these masalas could really come from my mother's Maharastrian kitchen. Definitely try the CHAI. I also really appreciate how they've chosen to present the cuisine so elegantly, among some really beautiful art and with a fabulous, THICK wine-list. What really must not be overlooked about this restaurant is SERVICE. Everyone in the dining area know... read more
highly recommended – This place is a winner! What a beautiful location. A big Victorian Mansion right downtown. The inside is just as beautiful with Indian artwork on every wall. And the food is just as exciting. I am a vegetarian and it is rare to find so much to choose from on a menu. I think that over half the menu was vegetarian. I am not a wine drinker, but they had this mango lassie that was out of this world. I think I have found my new favorite restaurant!
Tasty Not Hot – I have always avoided Indian restaurants (I don't like hot food). I recently went with friends and was thrilled! The flavors are sublime, complex and inspired desire for another bite. The entrees are served in silver platters, so I got to try all the dishes we ordered. My friends that like hot food could add the heat from the condiment tray. Even the rice had a delicous aroma and flavor and they brought as much as we wanted! I always heard this was a great place, but expensive. By the time we were stuffed and... read more
delighted! – I was at Plainfield's Mayur last week and my girl friend and I sat on their garden patio. What a great spot to enjoy the summer breeze, great Indian food and a great bottle of wine. The service was great and we never feeled rushed even though we lingered for four hours enjoying the evening.
Oh Yum! Let's go again! – Our firm regularly takes our out of town clients to Plainfields' Mayur and it never ceases to amaze us. The delicious appetizers (Dahi Wada is mandatory), the outstanding and diverse entrees, the broad choice of vegetarian offerings, all served family style so we can share the bounty. And with one of the greatest wine cellars in the world (I am not making this up) and the gracious and knowledgeable service we never leave without a sense that we have experienced the best.
the yummiest – I ate there yesterday with my wife and had a great time. The food was sublime and so was the wine. I can't wait to go back!
