About this business

Thank you to all of our loyal customers and greetings to those of you who are just now finding us. We have had the pleasure (and sometimes headaches) of being in the hospitality business for over 30 years. We are continuing in our tradition of presenting wonderful ingredients and offering a world class collection of Wines, Ports and Madeira to match. We have kept many of our upscale Indian dishes and added some exciting non-Indian dinners with our Chef's Whimsy Wine Paired events. We are still located in the Meirs mansion on... read more

In a class of it's own – Wow, What a find! It's great to find a restaurant that sets its own standards. I have never been to a Indian restaurant that had such a extensive wine list. The food was fantastic and the chef matched the cuisine to go perfectly with the wines. What a unique experience, and the wine prices are the lowest I have ever seen at a restaurant. I think that I am hooked on this place.

Best Anywhere – I've been around and searched out Indian Food. Mayur is better than 90% of NYC, London, SF, and Chicago. Certainly in a class by itself for Portland. Mayur is truly an experience that you shouldn't miss... at least once a month.

pampered service – Had a wonderful meal at plainfields. The service was fantastic and food and wine superior. What a beautiful setting and the art work alone is worth going to see. I will be heading back!

super experience – I had heard of Plainfields but had not ever gone as I am a kind of meat and potatoes guy. But My wife dragged me their and what a suprise! The food is not over spiced and went great with the wine selection. I loved the rack of lamb with mint chutney and wild mushrooms. My wife had the scallops which the sauce was out of this world. For dessert we had their masala carmel chai ice cream, what a treat. Iam going back!

ronton – I just had diner at Plainfields and had a great experience. I was there on a Monday and they have this half price wine offer on Monday's and Thursdays and wow what great deals on wines! It is nice to find a place that you can get a great bottle of wine with your diner at less thatn you can buy it at the grocery store. The service was great and the food sublime. I am going back next Monday for some more great wine buys.

A restaurant in a class of its own – Wanting to take someone special out for their birthday and show them something they haven't tried before, I searched high and low for the perfect dinner date restaurant. Plainfield's Mayur was this and more. It's a beautiful location in a house where you may dine outside under the Gazebo or inside amid amazing Indian artworks. The hostess was charismatic and the authentic Indian food is to die for. If you want to go somewhere new for dinner. Plainfield's isn't a place you should miss.

Awesome service, delightful food – I hosted a party for 15 people on the Plainfield's patio last evening. My bill came to $300 and we all ate our fill of the wonderful food. Presentation was fantastic. Service was pleasant, thorough and discrete. Personally, I don't like the hovering, overly perky, water sloshing wait staff. If you want that go to Red Robin. Here the staff promptly fulfilled our many and varied requests with a smile. As to the poster who complained about no high chairs...USE YOUR HEAD! There are places where... read more

CHILD UNFRIENDLY – I brought a 10 month old and was all but refused seating on an empty monday. They have no boosters or highchairs, and made it crystal clear that I shouldn't bring my child. My child was not crying or fussing at all by the way and we were being seated in a room by ourselves. I have been eating at Plainfields a few times a year for 12 years, and more for atmosphere than for the medeocre food. This is a nice place, but you get the impression the staff is superior to you. NEVER AGAIN.

Atmosphere isn't everything – Great atmosphere. Good food too. But when I think of Indian food, I don't think of "gourmet" Indian food. This seems to be an interpretation of Indian food by a gourmet chef. No doubt, it's good, but do I really need to spend $100 a head to eat out? If you want to impress and have a really good "gourmet Indian meal" in a very romantic spot, this is the place. If you're simply looking for good and authentic Indian food, keep looking.
