Standing a little away from Portland's bustling city center, Nostrana serves up honest regional Italian fare in a warm and welcoming setting. The restaurant's outdoor facade is fairly simple. Step in, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at what they've done with the place. Clean lines, lots of woods, ceiling mounted fans, large decorative plants and some great lighting choices give the place, a very charming feel. Choose from a limited, but well-crafted menu of regional Italian specialties made using the freshest local, seaso... read more

"We should have turned your party away" – I was excited to try the "Restaurant of the Year"...too bad I didn't read the reviews on Citysearch first. I will be fair in saying that I didn't go to their website- thus missing the fact that parties of 6 or more can make reservations. On Citysearch it says "no" reservations. We had a party of 8, so we showed up at 6PM to ensure a table. The first to arrive put our name in, and was told that all members of the party had to be there before we could be seated. We had one person who w... read more
User review by mojilato208 – Having intended to try Nostrana for a while, the Oregonian's "2006 Restaurant of the Year" distinction spurred us to finally go. I was lusting for real Neopolitan crust, and their pizza didn't disappoint. It's a sourdough crust with a wonderful tang to it, and the slightly blackened crisp only a wood-burning oven can impart. The Tartufo pizza had truffled bufala mozzarella and shitake mushrooms on it, which were fantastic together. We had a great fettucine dish with marinara and small, delicious ... read more
We loved this place! – Nostrana is an aquired taste. You can't go there and be in a hurry. It's not going to be a fun experience for you. I enjoy just spending a lot of time with my family and friends that I am with. The setting is fabulous. The food is amazing! The pizza is perfectly delicious, the crust is great. Nostrana deserves to be restaurant of the year! Salud!
We Liked It – Shocked to read all of the poor reviews. Ate there for the first time last night and loved it. Called ahead and was told that if we came before six there would be no wait, and when we got there we had our pick of tables. Service was very kind yet unobtrusive. We ordered two salads to share among four of us, and they were sparkling fresh and delicious. The entrees, dessert and coffee were all great. Maybe it depends when you go? We all agreed we would be back soon. Try it on a Monday at 5!
Skip This One – My boyfriend and I were looking forward to Nostrana, even before it was named Restaurant of the Year. We called ahead and had our name added to the wait list and still had to wait close to 1 1/2 hours. The food was ok (except for the burnt bread), the noise was jarring, the waitstaff average. With so many restaurant choices in Portland, don't make a special trip unless you want to see what all the hoopla is about like we did. Then, like us you won't be back again.
Disappointment! – I have been looking forward to eating here since the Restaurant of the Year award. However it was a disappointment. The wait was quoted 45 minutes, which was fine, but was actually over an hour. We watched others that came after us be seated before us. The hostess said there were a lot of variables that went into the seating order. Excuse me! I needed a "diner's manual" if that's the case. We were seated by the open door. It was chilly out but we were told the door couldn't be closed. So much for customer s... read more
AWFUL SERVICE, VERY NOISY, INCONSISTENT FOOD – Nostrana has the WORST SERVICE of any fine Portland restaurant--total chaos with an attitude. It seems that we are willing to punish ourselves in order to find decent Italian food in this town. Speak of punishment, the NOISE level is deafening. Bring your EAR PLUGS! And ambience? If you're lucky enough to be seated away from the awful fluorescent light from the open kitchen and the giant cold windows, you could find the bad mural and exposed wood ceiling interesting. The food is... read more
Good food, stressful experience – In short, we loved every bit of the food, but it will take us a while to return. It was not surprising that we had to wait to be seated on a Friday night, but we did expect to start our meal once we were. Not so. After waiting for fifteen minutes at our table, I went to the bar to order my wife a glass of wine. When our waitress arrived, she told us that next time we should ask her for it. Ignoring that, I ordered our entire meal, specifying courses. A half an hour later, it all arrived at o... read more
Dissappointed – I was really excited at the idea of a nice restaurant in my neighborhood. The food was okay, and the hostess was very nice - we were seated very quickly. But the server unnecessarily made me feel like a chump for trying to make a small substitution. Picky eaters are annoying, yes, but apparently there is absolutely NO ROOM for adjustment (or good customer service for that matter). Left a sour taste in my mouth that didn't leave much room for the food...
