I am a hospice nurse and have paid for short term disability benefits from NYL for years. Now that I have found myself dealing with a health event and needed to submit a claim for STD I am experiencing first hand how difficult this company is to work with. They are dragging on the claim process. I call my claim agent several times a week, I leave messages for advocates and no one calls me back. My medical team is also frustrated that they have completed lengthy paperwork several times and submitted all of the clinical docume... read more

This is by far the most worthless insurance company to ever be on the face of the earth. I went out on short term disability it took me over three months to get paid and then they only gave me a partial payment and refused to pay me anymore. They are absolutely atrocious worthless and many other words that I cannot say on here

So very frustrated, just had my short term disability claim denied after being off from work over a month and not being paid,on top of dealing with symptoms of lupus. My doctor filled out the requested form sent medical records and then was asked to fill out a clarification document, which she stated I'm unable to work due to pain associated with my lupus diagnosis. And the movements I'm unable to perform. Some how that is still not enough and more clinical proof is needed as if myself or my doctor are lying. I've been at my ... read more

If you have any sort of mental condition that deals with depression or anxiety dont bother. New York Life will it approve you. The bottom line is they DO NOT support this kind of claim. Its sad to the families affected by these kinds of corporations that dont take into consideration the lack of accessibility to mental health professionals during a pandemic. My husband suffers from anxiety, panic attacks and depression but he wasnt sick enough for NYL. They denied and denied our claim because they believe that his condition w... read more

I am giving them 1 star because they have been good with customer service in the past. I have a life insurance policy for my father that was opened 2015. I have always been able to get information and ask questions regarding the contract. Today I was asked by 3 different people who kept telling me this was the wrong department that they would have to transfer me over. Every time before the transfer i would have to wait in silence when i would say hello are you still their ....they would reply we are making notes. When I fina... read more

Terrible run around. No payment. Say short term closed and medical does not support long term claim. Been paying for this policy through Mercy for over 7 years and they will not pay out a Dime! Been out of work 5 months with no payment. But FMLA approved with employer. DO NOT pay extra for short or long term disability from this company. Guess they take your money and then DENYClaims for payment.very very poor.leaving hard working people Unable to live

Will not insure overweight individuals, I will not recommend this company to anyone.

Business response:

I certainly understand *** ******** disappointment after learning that we could not accept her request for life insurance coverage. Because of their health some applicants will not qualify for medically underwritten life insurance coverage. A person's height and weight are taken into consideration when determining a person's overall health. Although a decision to accept or decline an application for insurance is not always an easy one to make, our underwriters are trained professionals experienced in evaluating a wide range ... read more

I would put 0 stars if I could. No call back from case manager. I was out of work for STL (covid, pneumonia) for 4 weeks. Says approved. No check. Blamed my employer. Employer says no approval received. Total sh@% show. Would recommend to No one. Go to another company. This one is not worth your hard earned money. Terrible customer service. Can only chat online with rep who knows less than I do. I've requested the approval letters by email. They agree. Never send them. TERRIBLE COMPANY. STAY AWAY.
