A splendid culinary adventure awaits you at Navarre, a unique dining destination with a highly innovative take on the working of a restaurant. The interiors have a very casual, cafe-style vibe with bare walls, a wine shelf on one of the walls and a handful of lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The all-glass entrance allows a good play of natural light inside. The chef crafts an innovative selection of European small plates with influences from the Italian, French and Spanish palate. The twist however, comes with the menu. Th... read more

great food in a wine wonderland – A locale that definitely complements the already robust restaurant scene on NE 28th and Burnside. Loved everything from the fried cheese to the spicy chicken. Everything was plated nicely, and oh, that excellent wine list! Decor is very minimal and sparse, which may be to your liking: I thought it was O.K., but maybe off-putting to others. Does get a bit noisy, so while a great place for a date, it can make conversation difficult. Highly recommended.
a charmer – I really wish I drank wine so I could take advantage of Navarre's extensive wine list almost all of which are available by the glass. Instead, I had to console myself with the many simple, but elegant and tasty dishes on their menu. Anyone going expecting Spanish style tapas will probably be disappointed, but keep and open mind and experiment and you will find some real delights. Favorites at my table included: leg of lamb, crêpes with morels, pate with prunes. Service was painfully slow (it was an hour before we... read more
nice place – I went to Navarre last night and really had a nice time. I was with a group of friends and we tried many of the things on the menu. Our favorates were the morel crepes and the bbq ribs.(both on the special board) All the food was good though. Our servece was good and friendly. We were in wine heaven, there were so many wines by the glass.
rude service – hit or miss with the food, nice interior, but terrible service. the waitress was rude and condescending from the moment we walked in. apologizing for her attitude because she was in a bad mood didn't help - i wouldn't get away with treating people like that when i'm at work.
Bohemian... Something – I used to glare in at the yuppies when I'd pass this restaurant on the way home. Then I went in, and realized that it's a sweet kind of lovely in there and the prices and food are good. The waitstaff wasn't that nice, but maybe they remember the glaring or didn't appreciate that I knocked over my water.
My favorite PDX place – Six of us found the menu minimalist, which forced us to to trust the chef. Don't worry: you are in good hands. Memorable bites: pate with cornichons, any vegetable dish, pork butt slowly braised with anchovy-garlic-Portuguese pepper rub (superlative). Price a value: $75 for six (+$85 for 2 bottles of wine, but who's counting?) Space too noisy; needs some softening. Perfect desserts: pairings of port/liqueur with tiny bites were sheer bliss. A great meal: ideal portions. I'll be back this fall to see w... read more
Oil-of-Olay! – I had heard the rave reviews - but all I ate was olive oil. Navarre, food needs more than oil to make it appealing, appetizing, and special! We had olives (try Cafe Castagna's instead), bread, leeks (with a dash of garlic, drowned in oil), endive with ricotta (again, the oil doesn't finish it), mushrooms (were they from a can with broth?), clams (standard saffron broth), flank steak (c'mon, cut it thin - though at least LEMON added some zing to the oil), and gosh, I don't recall what else. The place needs some... read more
Better than other tapas places – Fernandos, Colosso, and Tapeo are all quite good for tapas, but this place leaves 'em in the dust. Too many varieties to describe, and a nice wine list too.
Completely satisfying! – We hadn't heard of Navarre when we stumbled upon it recently and decided to give it a try. Terrific decision! The place is hip and modern yet still cozy and welcoming. The owner spent 10 minutes helping us pick our wine -- samples included! And the food! So many unique choices at such good prices! The rosemary trout was one of the best flavor punches I've ever had. My boyfriend is usually, um, a cheap tipper, but unprompted he left a lot at Navarre.
