About this business

A splendid culinary adventure awaits you at Navarre, a unique dining destination with a highly innovative take on the working of a restaurant. The interiors have a very casual, cafe-style vibe with bare walls, a wine shelf on one of the walls and a handful of lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The all-glass entrance allows a good play of natural light inside. The chef crafts an innovative selection of European small plates with influences from the Italian, French and Spanish palate. The twist however, comes with the menu. Th... read more

how wonderful – We went to navarre after reading about it in the Dining Guide. When we got there we were not sure what to think. We almost left but decided to give it a try. This place is great the food and wine was amazing and there were around 7 deserts to chose from. We had a lovely time and will return soon.

Disappointing first experience – My boyfriend took me out tonight for my birthday and let me choose the restaurant. He has had tapas, but I never had, so I suggested Navarre. We were both disappointed. The octopus I ordered was so salty and oily that I was gagging and couldn't finish, and the greens were oily, bitter and quite salty. I was most disappointed in the duck as it had no hint of the wonderful duck flavor that I love. It was dry and overcooked, coated with oil and salt, and reminded me of pulled pork or chicken. My... read more

I have been eating at Navarre on and off for two years. I have to say it just keeps getting better and better. Recently I had a beef loin with Chini Churri amazing. The vegetables are always good and the last few times the any gratin was great. Everynow and then the buffalo can be a bit chewy but still has great flavor. The service has only improved. Sometimes they are out of quite a bit this only forces me to try more of the specials. There are so many great wines by the glass. All in all I love this place.

Absolutely void of flavor – We eat out about twice a week and have been to amost every restaurant in Portland. I can't remember eating a worse meal. The only flavor I tasted in any of the eight dishes I tried was salt. I wouldn't go back if it were free.

yummy plates – i've been to navarre on several occasions and have enjoyed it every single time. the wine list is fantastic and the menu has something for everyone. the last time i went, i had the best greens i have probably ever eaten in my life. i enjoy the pared down space (and sitting outside in the summer is lovely) but the tables could be a little larger to accommodate all our plates. service can be a bit slow at times and a little more attentive but it has never been rude.

wonderful food – I recently ate at Navarre and had the best time. The wine list is amazing and the food exceptional. They had about sixteen specials all of which sounded good. I had heard that the bird was awsome from a friend but the halibut sounded to good to resist. Everything we ate had a distinctive flavor. The tables need to be bigger to accomadate all or plates.

disappointing evening all around – Our food was bland- our waiter was nice, but terribly rushed. He was the only waiter in that night. We were told that there were three items on the small menu that were unavailable, and two of the specials had only one portion left. I ordered mushrooms and was told that they didn't have enough. Our food was plonked on the table by someone from the kitchen, along with mushrooms. I ate a few, and when the woman came back, I said I was surprised to see the muchrooms afterall. She then picked u... read more

Burned Cheese. Expensive burned cheese. – 45 minutes after arriving, we received our first bite-sized entree called (we think) "Prico", which must be yuppie for burned cheese. We were optimistic and hungry enough to eat it, and we spent the next 20 minutes picking it out of our teeth in hopes of shaking the taste. At this point we were skeptical but willing to try more. Bland, sandy clams, bland kale, and our only decent bite, endive with unburned cheese. The wine arrived with cork floating in it, the waitress was distant an... read more
