A splendid culinary adventure awaits you at Navarre, a unique dining destination with a highly innovative take on the working of a restaurant. The interiors have a very casual, cafe-style vibe with bare walls, a wine shelf on one of the walls and a handful of lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The all-glass entrance allows a good play of natural light inside. The chef crafts an innovative selection of European small plates with influences from the Italian, French and Spanish palate. The twist however, comes with the menu. Th... read more

terrific tapas – Great leg of lamb, best mussels outside of France; great wine list.
Wonderful Addition to Portland! – What a fantastic concept, tasting portions small enough to leave you wanting more, and wine capable of a perfect compliment.
Just short of lovely. – The menu was confusing. The wait staff was friendly although not able to clarify how we should order: tapas or not? The food was delicious although next time we'll order more so as to not leave almost satisfied. Perfect diverse crowd.
Navarre Nirvana – Maybe they should've melded the two words and named this restaurant Navarna, because it's definitely close to heaven. From the hip, clean lines of the decor through the deliciously delicate flavors of each dish, the perfectly-planned wine list through to the surprise couplings of dessert wines with small, decadent sweets, Navarre is relaxing and sense-sational. Recommended: Country pate with pork and prunes; stuffed chicken; Banyuls with bittersweet chocolate (sigh).
Porcini Perfection – This place is wonderful a neighborhood gem that sparkles on every level. The decor is tasteful and inventive, with a thoughtful dining area and a less formal bar in the back. Soft lighting and small tables (theyre not too close together) provide an intimacy that makes Navarre a great choice for a date. The wine list is expansive, with a multitude of reasonably priced and eclectic options, most available by the glass, carafe, or bottle. Menu items appeal to even the most discriminating diner and are prepa... read more
the emperor has no clothes – i appreciate the ambition here a lot, but it fails in almost every way. the spare decor is lovely, but the tables are very cramped, and the space shiveringly frigid. the service is earnest, but unfamiliar with, in our case, the dessert offerings. nice wine pour sizes! many not available though on a menu that could easily be reprinted. THE FOOD NEEDS SEASONING. there are wonderful ways to execute a minimalist cuisine, but successful minimalism includes flavor, not just the sort of bland architectu... read more
almost great – Here is a wine bar that has great food and a well chosen wine list at good prices. Where they fail is the atmosphere. It is minimal, not warm. The night we were in the music was irritating, not inviting and the light is okay but they need warmer colors. Its obvious that someone is doing a good job here but overlooked an essential part of their success. Make it warm, with good music and they will succeed. Also, get rid of the kitchen view. I only want to see the kitchen if its a kitchen worth seeing and this is... read more
Love this place! – I happened upon this new spot the week that they opened and was blown away by the food. We ordered almost everything on the menu and enjoyed every bit. For dessert, I had a pairing of a great dessert wine with chocolates. Such a great finish to a fun meal. I love the golf pencils and "sushi-like" ordering system. The ambience is warm and romantic...I recommend it to all my friends!
bore-ing – Skip it. After all the hype, I finally went to Navarre with three friends. It's true, the waitstaff were more interested in chatting with their friends who stopped by than waiting on tables. Simple questions about the wines could not be answered. We were mortified when the tiniest plate of almonds arrived ($2) or the 2 bites of cheese ($5). Cool looking space, poor service, relatively expensive drinks for the price.
