About this business

With the aim of addressing the stark absence of quality restaurants offering home-style food in the area, chef and owner Lisa Schroeder has taken the experience gained at the likes of Le Cirque to create wonderfully fresh, bistro-style cuisine in the light and airy ambiance of this old Irish bank building. Breakfast and lunch menus at Mother's Bistro & Bar offer an excellent array of Northwestern specialties prepared to the highest standards. There is more variation in the dinner menu, with everything from salads to pot roas... read more

service with a smile – Wow, I really love Mothers! I am a girl of very simple tastes and down home cooking always sounds so good, but if not done right can be really disappointing. My partner, on the other hand, enjoys living life on the wild side, and trying new and funky things. Imagine my surprise when I walked into Mother's and was welcomed warmly by the soft decor and the smell of pancakes done RIGHT! I was a little skeptical of french toast with cornflakes on them, but I was literally blown away! A perfect balance of s... read more

Great Food - Exceptional Service. – I had a very nice time at Mother's - as I usually do when I am in town. I've read the review just prior to mine and agree that lines can be long - but I know this. I live out of the country and I still know to make a reservation upon arrival into town. I have been to Mother's perhaps 20 or more times in the last 5 years and have seen them very busy and much more relaxed. Even extremely busy, the host Jody always acknowledges my presence and makes sure that everyone waiting is being acknowl... read more

A great thing ruined by one stupid incident.... – My mother and I have been coming to Mothers restaurant every week for a couple of years now - and until yesterday we had always been treated very well. Until yesterday. We walked in the door yesterday morning about 7:30 and were waiting to be seated, and two of your women employees were in the bar area having a loud conversation using the the f-word word over, and over and over. . I told them that I didnt' think that was appropriate - and that I sometimes bring my kids in for... read more

Not bad – I have to admit, the food is great. However, the service could really use some work. The attitude seems to be that they don't need your business (and with the long lines, I guess they don't) from the host. When we were seated the last time we went there, the waitress was accomodating, but she brought me the wrong food. I didn't notice until I was a quarter through it. It wasn't exactly what I wanted, but still good. If you don't mind long, long waits and cranky and sometimes incompitent service to get good food, ch... read more

Avoid Sunday Mornings – My experience.... I went to Mothers on a Sunday afternoon, so I expected things to be busy. However, the host was WAY over his head and due to a mistake of his we (I was with two others) ended up waiting 45 minutes. The wierd thing is that I had (nicely) asked several times if we were coming upon the list and he simply nodded yes. Other things to note... There were playing modern pop music in the bar area that could be heard throughout the entire restaurant. The price was reasonable. The waitress was ... read more

Hmmmmm, yummy! – I love Mothers, their desserts are amazing, the staff are all super friendly and the fish special is guaranteed to be tantalizing. The pierogis are great, the potato rolls are great, I just wish I could eat more of them at one sitting. We've been going to Mothers for about 4 years and we've never had a bad experience.

Staff needs overhaul, as does food! – Breakfast had always been a great experience at Mother's, so we were shocked when Dinner was so poor! The food, the service, the attitude, everything! Our server was ice cold, not a warm or welcoming bone in his body. In the past other servers may have had some attitude, but they were REALLY good at their job. Not sure what the deal was with this guy. The raised voices and tension emulating from the kitchen was quite distracting. Our food was so salty we could barely manage, and should h... read more

Don't go to Mother's – The menu is not exciting, it has barely changed since the place opened 6 years ago--and if you scan the rest of the reviews posted here you will notice a recurring theme: the chef is downright horrible to her staff. She often screams at and belittles hard working servers and cooks.

Down home cookin' – Menu not expansive. Very limited for vegetarians. Try the specials from the featured mother. Sit in the bar area during the day for better service.
