With the aim of addressing the stark absence of quality restaurants offering home-style food in the area, chef and owner Lisa Schroeder has taken the experience gained at the likes of Le Cirque to create wonderfully fresh, bistro-style cuisine in the light and airy ambiance of this old Irish bank building. Breakfast and lunch menus at Mother's Bistro & Bar offer an excellent array of Northwestern specialties prepared to the highest standards. There is more variation in the dinner menu, with everything from salads to pot roas... read more

Very good service – Mother's has a very cheerful, attentive staff. Sometimes even a little too cheerful before you get your first cup of coffee in you. And the coffee is amazing. They serve Stumptown in individual an French press, and it is really really good. Breakfast is consistently good. Great service. The best coffee
Very dissapointing - had high hopes – I went to Mother's one night with high expectations having been deprived of matzah ball soup for quite some time. The broth was brown in color which is unusual and the matzah ball was just okay. I had the meatloaf which was very dissapointing. It was a small portion and the mashed potatoes were dry. My friend had the pulled pork and being from the South, this was no pulled pork. It was covered in gravy and did not look appetizing. The restaurant patrons were mostly in the 60+ age group. ... read more
Groups - Expect to be misquoted and overcharged – We recently went to Mothers for a retirement luncheon. A member of my office coordinated the luncheon and prices ahead of time. When it came time for the bill we were overcharged by $100 for our lunch. Desserts were supposed to be included with our meal. Our dessert consisted of very small portions of soggy apple crisp with a tiny scoop of ice-cream for everyone. We were then charged the additional $100 for this dessert. Manager Jen did not apologize or honor her original agr... read more
Not a great Experience and avoid group gatherings – Have eaten here 3 times and the waitstaff was great. Food is not really anything to rave about but the Hostt/Hostess and mangement team are definitely not customer oriented. The latest experience was for a group luncheon and the planning was a nightmare. When questions or problems arose we could not get a response. The quoted prices were high but, were supposed to include coffee and desert. Management had not coordinated this with the staff and there was a great deal of con... read more
Don't book a party there – When I booked a retirement party, the party manager quoted a price for each room. Each room was for a specific amount of guests, there was never a mention of any extra charge. The manager had recommended that a menu be provided to those that would be attending and that no prices be provided. There was to be one price for the entire party, this turned out to be a lie. The manager had seen the menu and the choices prior one week before the party and never was I told that there would be an extra charg... read more
The Mother's Facade....Don't buy it!!! – I have frequented this establishment for the past three years at varying times of the day and week in order to remain 'under the radar' so as to fairly assess the food and environment. I have witnessed the most disgusting displays of bi-polar aggression from Lisa Schroeder towards buspersons, cooks, baristas, bartenders and waitstaff. The staff seems to ALWAYS fail miserably to perform any minute task when Lisa Schroeder is on a warpath, and I have sat at tables close enough to her to... read more
Mother's Bistro Does it Even Better Then Mom! – Before I even lived in Portland, Mother's was THE place we had to stop while in town! The waffles with chocolate chips are soooo good! Really, everything on the menu is heavenly and even BETTER then Mom makes! Whether I'm going for breakfast, lunch, or dinner I make sure to leave plenty of room for their huge portions! From the wait staff to the ambiance Mother's Bistro is something everyone must try!
Father's Day Brunch at Mother's... – ...was a real treat. Sure, it is full of irony, but our brunch was fantastic. With our reservation we were seated promptly and served a lineup of tasty breakfast eats. One of the best features of Mother's - H&H Bagels, directly from Manhattan, NYC. Sure, some people don't think there is much of a difference in East Coast / West Coast bagels - they are WRONG, and Mother's knows it. Next time you and a few friends or family are looking for a home cooked meal with a little bit of NYC - go ha... read more
I was there when it opened, I have since left town, and I will FLY back to eat here again. – Mother's is in a spot known for consuming restaurants wholesale - the old Irish Bank Pub, if I recall, being the last prior tenant. Mother's broke the curse. No. Wait. Mother's DESTROYED the curse. It has been there since... 2000, I think? I don't quite remember but I worked upstairs when it opened, and was delighted when they served their first plate. Mother's takes reservations for brunch. Not required, but they're that popular.
