About this business
When Cedar Rapids needed hospital beds in 1900, the Sisters of Mercy established Mercy Hospital in a small house on Third Avenue and Sixth Street Southeast. The 15-bed house was soon too small, so the Sisters of Mercy looked for money and a site to build a larger hospital. They went from parish to parish and to nearby towns. In 1903, they were able to construct a 100-bed hospital at Mercy's present location. I was a patient at Mercy Hospital for a week, and I have only the best to say about my care! All the staff....nursrs, Dr, my rehab people, social worker, everyone was absolutely wonderful!
