When Cedar Rapids needed hospital beds in 1900, the Sisters of Mercy established Mercy Hospital in a small house on Third Avenue and Sixth Street Southeast. The 15-bed house was soon too small, so the Sisters of Mercy looked for money and a site to build a larger hospital. They went from parish to parish and to nearby towns. In 1903, they were able to construct a 100-bed hospital at Mercy's present location. All I will say is I’ll die from a heart attack before going to the ER again. Went to Mercy with nausea and some chest pain and discomfort. Uneasy about the way I felt. Got to ER at Mercy and explained the condition. No excruciating pain but enough to concern me. With my wife by my side and within 10 minutes they were administering nitro and morphine. Immediately flatlined and was given CPR for approximately 2 minutes. I did survive but my wife is a wreck. Just not sure why I was so aggressively treated with the condition I w... read more
RecommendedMy husband and I both had emergency surgery within the same year. Nurses Paula and Terry G in pre Op were both of our nurses and they added that extra special touch even during hectic and stressful times of emergency surgery. Thank you!
I will never go back here again they cared less that my daughter seized and the lab people just watched and after a minute of her seizing and being purple picked her up and patted her back until she came out of it where she then passed out for 2-3 hours and didn’t cry or budge why they were poking her I have spoken with the house supervisor plan on speaking with the patient advocate and doing some course of action
Nurses are amazing people, especially those at Mercy Cedar Rapids. thanks to Carly, Ariel, Jenny, Tia, Melissa, Emily, and the others in the surgery room whose names I did not get!
I have always had great care at Mercy. I have had some out patient procedures and have always been treated great. When I went to the emergency room and was put through the fast flow for patients and was treated I was treated like I was a piece of crap.

Awesome place. Very personable service. Wonderful valet service.
I've been a patient multiple times in the Birthplace and the staff is absolutely incredible here. I've just had my second baby and every staff member that I have encountered has been very patient and kind.
