When Cedar Rapids needed hospital beds in 1900, the Sisters of Mercy established Mercy Hospital in a small house on Third Avenue and Sixth Street Southeast. The 15-bed house was soon too small, so the Sisters of Mercy looked for money and a site to build a larger hospital. They went from parish to parish and to nearby towns. In 1903, they were able to construct a 100-bed hospital at Mercy's present location. Basically had my ankle rebuilt last week. The staff was amazing, the care impeccable. My surgeon called the night before and the evening after the surgery, which was very comforting. There was also a follow-up call from a nurse, who was able to answer my remaining questions. The ONLY thing missing was a hug from sister Peg..I was not aware she had retired. She will be sorely missed. Mercy is definitely our care provider of choice!!
I came from St.lukes where I was treated like a number to Mercy who treats you like a person. Thank you everyone that works for mercy for your kindness and for your respect that I have been given.

Exceptional care. Staff is ALWAYS friendly, and informative. Love being treated like an individual rather than just a number. Staff is always smiling and being positive. It makes being at the hospital so much more pleasant!
