RACIST INCIDENT AT MARTINSBURG VAMC SWIMMING POOL. On August 3, 2019 I went to the Martinsburg VAMC swimming pool with my friends. While at the pool I slipped off my jean shorts and into my swimming trunks. Five minutes later VA Officer Michael St. Claire arrived and stated to me that the lifeguard called the police because he felt intimidated by a BIG BLACK GUY. I was told by OFFICER MICHAEL ST. Can’t get through on the phone system. Even called the operator and asked for the department. Still can’t get anyone to answer
I’ve had ups and downs with the VA but overall I cannot complain. I am very grateful and humble to be able to get the care that I get.... unfortunately it is very clear there are about a third of the employees that are not working there for the purpose of helping veterans. I feel if you are working at the VA your main purpose should be helping veterans and not just treat it like an average every day job and do the bare minimum like some E-4 mafia style workers definitely going on there. as a past member of the DAV Auxiliary, I visited and gifted the Martinsburg VA Medical Center Veterans. The Center is staffed by caring & compassionate persons who treats everyone with respect.
I received a compliment about our VA today at a civilian medical practice in Baltimore Maryland. “Martinsburg VA is the best VA hospital around” It made me so proud and I responded by saying “Our Management and all of the professionals I work with are THE BEST!” We work as a team and that’s what makes us “The best.” I’m not a Veteran. I am honored to do my part in caring for our Veterans.
