poor service, average food-ZERO stars – We recently had dinner at le castagne with family visiting from europe. The service was terrible from the moment we walked in the door. The hostess had trouble locating the reservation although it was confirmed. The wait staff was disinterested and seemed bored with their duties. The waiter who came to give the specials had difficultly describing them and acted as if he didn't know what the food was via his delivery and pronounciation. The wine steward or waiter or who ever he was had ... read more

just right! – We went here the night before our daughter's college graduation. It was "just right" in that the service level, food quality, and overall atmosphere made us feel that we were experiencing a "special" night. Prices were on the higher side, but for what we were looking for, the restaurant really worked well.

TERRIBLE!!! – I recently dined @ Le Castagne for my third and last time. Every other experience I had with this restaurant was outstanding...until last night. I was totally confused by the new wait staff...all of whom seemed like they have never served a table before. All of our three courses took decades to get to the table, and moreover we could not get the attention of one person that worked there to refill our cocktails. The food was not as I remembered it. The pasta was bland and my wife's $37 veal chop was over done! W... read more

Le Castagne I agree with several other reviewers that the service was much less than expected for an upscale restaurant. The food is very good but is also very pricey.

Authentic Italian Food – Center City Philadelphia is full of "Italian" Restaurants but 1 place I recently dined at is the real deal. The food is freshly prepared. You could tell is wasn't waithing in the kitchen under heat lamps for someone to order it. The pasta is heavenly. Homemade. There is no other way to describe it. Cooked to perfection. The way real Italians eat it. Not mushy and drowning in sauce. My sea bass was excellent with just the right amount of seasoning. Fish must be cooked a certain way or it will dry out ... read more

An amazing dining experience – I had visited Le Castagne on Valentines Day. First let me start by saying the restaurant is beautiful from the time we walked in we were met with an amazing atmosphere. The hostess was incredibly friendly when she greeted us and took our coats. When we sat down it was more of the same great experience the staff was friendly and happy to take time explaining how the food was prepared as well as recommend a wine to go with our meal. The food was just incredible everything was so delicious. I had ... read more

awful – The good service here ended with the Hostess, she did a great job taking our coats. My wife and i were waiting for the rest of our party so we headed over to the bar and had to wait several minutes while the bar tender continued a conversation with an off duty staff member. when the some of our party arrived they sat us and we proceed to wait approximately 15 minutes to receive a drink menu. once the rest of our party arrived we waited another 5 minutes and finally were given 2 drink menus, from our oafy waiter. The ... read more

Don't expect to be welcomed – I'm sorry to say that my experience here was awful. We had a reservation for four and were ready to have a good evening and buy food, wine, dessert, etc. We were also dressed professionally, so I don't think we were bringing down the real estate values all that much. But we were treated very poorly all the same, ignored, slow service (or no service) and the food, when it came, was mediocre at best. I think that there are other places to have much better -- and more kindly served -- Italian food ... read more

good food but extremely poor service – The food was very good, and the atmosphere nice, but those are the only good things I have to say about Le Castagne. The service was really poor all around. We sat at the table for about 15 minutes before we got menus and I had to even ask for them. The waiters for the most part were not very professional in the way they spoke to us being too familiar and informal and even a bit "cheeky" for a place that tries to give an upscale feel. My order was put in wrong and they brought the wrong... read more
