Don't waste your money – We had company from out of town and Jake's had been recommended to him. I read the other reviews on City Search and was not thrilled to be going. My gut instincts were correct! Younger guests do not get the same level of service as older ones. All of the other tables had water and bread brought to them immediately, we had to ask after sitting for 30 minutes. It also took 20 minutes to get a refill on iced-tea. The food was alright. Their "highly recommended" pasta dishes were less then average. The t... read more
cheap eats after drinks – I went to Jakes a little while back after cocktails and it tuns out that they have really inexpensive happy hour eats. I was really impressed. Service not so good, but the food definately was worth the attitude........
I Wouldn't Rush Back... – When we arrived, Jake's mysteriously didn't have our 9:00pm reservations, so we had to wait until about 9:45 to be seated. The food was OK, but very uninteresting and tasted hastily prepared. The filet and mashed potatoes were over-seasoned and the ceasar salad average. The staff seems rushed and unhappy. Overall it feels like only an average restaurant, coasting on its reputation.
Oh Dear – I think (hope) it was just a bad day there, but I had a terrible experience at Jakes. When I came in for breakfast the hostess turned and walked away from me. After waiting a few minutes I seated myself. Thw waiter was very pleasant & brought me the decaf coffee I requested however it was luke warm. He brought back a new cup which had grounds at the bottom, which he saw & replaced. Finally the omlette I ordered was bland & when I began to eat into the middle of it, the eggs were nearly raw. Thankfully the waiter sa... read more
Snobby and a Let Down – Living here for five years I thought I should finally try the famous Jake's for steaks. The biggest let down was the service. I called a day ahead to ask if I needed a reservation for a Wednesday and was told not to worry about it. We arrived and asked for a table for two expecting to sit down right away as there were numerous empty tables. The snob hostess made us wait for a half-hour while she acted very busy and finally sat us rudely when she realized I was annoyed by my dagger stare. Total waste o... read more
Blah! – Snooty patrons and waiters. Overpriced for blah food. Waiter told me there were open seats at the bar so I gave up my table to sit over there. LIAR!
Not a Big Deal – Tried Jake's Grill, on a visit to Portland, as there is a 20% off coupon in the Big Deal booklet. What a disappointment. Very overprised for the quality. The ravioli salad came with a tough pasta, shells in the crab meat, almost raw vegetables that even resisted cutting with a knife and a sauce that overpowered everything. There were also pieces of shell in the crab cakes. The only good note was the Mediterranean seafood chowder.
Bad service, usual food – No restaurant downtown has poorer service. I live right downtown and have eaten in many of the restaurants here (if not most of them), and I have yet to find anyone as rude, thoughtless, and unwelcoming as the people at Jake's Grill. This fact seems especially strange since the original Jakes on Stark used to have some of the most experienced, most highly paid service staff of any restaurant in Portland. Not so Jakes Grill. Just walk in the door some night and notice how the hostess just stares at y... read more
