Just a little head's up... – Of all those who have made reservations only to arrive at Jake's and not be on the reservations book, there are TWO Jake's: Jake's Grill and Jake's Famous Crawfish. I'm guessing half of you simply called the wrong place. Cheers!
The road to h*** is paved with good intentions – Jake's is a Portland tradition run into the ground by a corporation. First was the overwhelming smell of cigar smoke coming invading the entire restraunt from the bar area. Next was a hostess wanting to comisserate about her work schedule. Then came deep fried crab and shrip cakes so full of breading and so overdone they could have been used for hockey (the executive chef needs to spend some time in Baltimore). The seafood trio was dry and tasteless. The wait staff really need... read more
Great food, good service and good value – I've never tried any of their meats, but the seafood is quite good, and excellent for the price. I've had Oysters, Razor Clams, and Halibut, and all of them have been fresh and cooked to perfection. The desserts have been the only big dissapointment. The creme brulee is okay, but the rest sacrifice quality in favor of (excessive) size. The wine list is a little sparse, but there are some good choices and there are some good beers as well (Bridgeport IPA on tap, Bass in the bottle, et... read more
Perfect Service – Upon arriving at Jake's, the foyer was full and the host staff seemed confused and we waited 20 minutes for our table. Upon seating, our waiter greeted us professionally, but friendly. Drinks were great and inexpensive, which was refreshing compared to San Francisco. The waiter was surprisingly candid about the menu and assisted us in our choices. Two of us had to send back our steaks, but the waiter wasted no time correcting the problems. Great little touches like folding and placing the napkin on the seat... read more
Great spot in Portland – I came in town for a business meeting and had the opportunity to eat at Jake's. Called just a few hours before dinner and they fortunately squeezed us in. Had an absolute great experience with dinner here. I travel all over the country and will definitely return to Jake's when back in Portland. The atmosphere was great with the tall ceilings and woodwork. Service and food were exceptional. The waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable about the food and appropriate wines to go with such. Appetize... read more
Great food – My partner and I dropped in without a reservation at 9:30pm on a Friday and were seated immediately in the main dining room, which was packed full. Initial service was a bit slow but when the server did come, she was knowledgeable and attentive. There are a lot of great roomy window booth/tables. I agree with the other reviews...sourdough bread was served cold, but that seems to be the norm for any McCormick's-owned restaurant I've ever been to. We split a shrimp/crab Louie salad which was great. I had the peppe... read more
Jakes is great – This restuarant is owned by McCormicks and Schmicks and is in my opinion better than the chain atmosphere of McCormicks and Schmicks. I would recommend this place to any one for almost anything. It is a very universal Restuarant and a great tool for any Concierge.
Labeler – Went to Jakes Grill last night 11/20/04 for dinner. We had reservations, we were seated in an overflow room that was drafty and the buss boys were noisey. The Onion soup was very good as was the clam chowder that my wife had. The blue chesse steak had gressl in it and seemed to have a skin on it like it had been sitting around for a long time. I ordered mashed potatoes and was served a baked potato by the waiter that took the order. The bread which didn't get to the table till just befor the food arrived was refige... read more
Great Restaurant – I've eaten at Jakes too many times to count, and have taken dozens of out of town guests. My only complaint is I have to go there TOO much because whenever someone visits, they have to go back. Service is perfect. Once I needed change for the parking meter, and a busboy just gave it to me! Sometimes things aren't perfect, and they delight in making it just right. Steaks are just extraordinary, as are the pasta dishes and seafood. Desserts are worth saving room for. The ambience is perfect...there are no ba... read more
